DMDK goes for next in its style...What's in it and will Vijayakanth's demand be met?

Though DMDK is brave enough to quit the ADMK alliance, it seems like it's not brave enough to contest independently in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly polls as the party, which is led by Vijayakanth's family, has been knocking on the doors of the key parties in the state to ride on their back in the crucial polls.

On Tuesday, DMDK had directed a sudden twist in Tamil Nadu politics after deciding to quit the ADMK alliance over the dispute in seat-sharing. The DMDK had decided to exit the ADMK alliance after receiving unanimous support from the district secretaries of the party. The development has come when the ADMK was facing challenges in convincing the DMDK to settle up for the lower seats. Initially, the DMDK had opened the talks by demanding 41 seats, and later on, the party had lowered its numbers and demanded 25 seats.

The DMDK was affirmed that it will not contest the seats less than PMK. Earlier, ADMK had offered 23 seats to PMK and DMDK had demanded 25 seats from ADMK. However, there were no positive signs between ADMK and DMDK over the seat-sharing, and on Tuesday, DMDK has decided to quit the ADMK alliance that it observed for two years.

The statement, signed by Vijayakanth, concerning the decision was released by DMDK on Tuesday in which it has said, "DMDK had held talks with ADMK three times for the upcoming assembly elections. The ADMK had refused to allot the requested numbers of seats. The talks didn't attain an expected and desired conclusion and since all the DMDK districts secretaries had reached a decision, DMDK has decided to quit the ADMK alliance from March 9".

Though DMDK announced to quit the ADMK alliance, the party hasn't divulged what's the next course of action on whether it will contest independently. The DMDK members said that  ADMK leaders Edappadi Palaniswami and Panneerselvam had betrayed VK Sasikala then and now they have betrayed Vijayakanth. The members had claimed that Edappadi Palaniswami will lose the deposit in the assembly polls. On Tuesday, Vijayakanth's son Vijaya Prabhakaran said that the party will not ally with Kamal Haasan and Dhinakaran.

However, within one day of exiting the ADMK alliance, DMDK has begun its talks for the alliance, signaling that the party is not brave enough to contest independently. According to reports, ADMK has on Wednesday begun talks with Dhinakaran's AMMK to form an alliance. The leaders of AMMK and DMDK sat together in a hotel in Greenways Road, Chennai and the sources say that the DMDK had demanded 50 seats from AMMK to contest in the polls. Dhinakaran's party, which has recently formed an alliance with Owaisi's AIMIM, is yet to decide whether to induct DMDK in the alliance.

In what has become its unique style, DMDK has been displaying that it will come to the talks with the alternatives and if the party fails to build an alliance with AMMK, DMDK has an alternative shelter - Kamal Haasan's Makkal Needhi Maiam. The reports close to the development say that DMDK will be holding talks with Kamal Haasan on Wednesday evening to have a discussion on a possible alliance. Though asserting that it will contest independently, DMDK is keen on forming an alliance, and unlike any other party, DMDK has planned to hold talks with both parties at the same time.

The political observers say that AMMK and Makkal Needhi Maiam are the only parties on the card that DMDK can possibly form an alliance. Vijayakanth's party has been demanding nearly 50 seats from both parties and it will form an alliance with the party that accepts its demand. While DMDK goes with the decision of naming Vijayakanth as the Chief Ministerial candidate, it is still unclear whether Dhinakaran and Kamal Haasan, who are also dreaming to become the Chief Minister, will accept Vijayakanth's demand.

It has been expected that the talks will reach their conclusion by this week after which the state of DMDK will be known. AMMK has made the alliance with Owaisi's All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen and it has offered three seats to Owaisi's party. AMMK has also allotted one seat each to Gokula Makkal Katchi and Marudhu Senai Sangam and it has been anticipated that the AMMK alliance will contest over 200 seats under the leadership of Dhinakaran.

On the other hand, Kamal Haasan has formed the Third front by allying with Sarathkumar's Samathuva Makkal Katchi and Paarivendhar's Indhiya Jananayaga Katchi. Recently, these three parties had signed a deal and while Makkal Needhi Maiam has decided to contest in 154 seats, Sarathkumar's SMK and Paarivendhar's IJK will contest in 40 seats each and it is less likely that Kamal's Third front will accept Vijayakanth's demand. Earlier, Sarathkumar asserted that Kamal Haasan will be the Chief Ministerial candidate for the alliance. With no positive signs to form an alliance, DMDK is surfaced with questions of whether the party is brave-enough to annul its demand of making Vijayakanth the Chief Minister to form an alliance.
