Weeks after the state of Tamil Nadu had witnessed the extreme faces of casteism where Dalit communities had denied access to the common crematorium to cremate the deceased of their communities, the National Commission of Scheduled Caste (NCSC) had urged the state government to reserve the funds for constructing common burial grounds and graveyards for all communities, while the state had accounted for having the crematorium accessed only by the specific communities.
Speaking in Madurai district, which recently had hosted such horrific incident of denying rights to dalits to access the grounds of common crematorium, the vice chairman of NCSC, Murugan had cited that the state government must initiate necessary fund reserve towards having common burial grounds that should be accessed by all the communities without having the shade on their castes and backgrounds.
The reports say that the vice chairman had tabled the meetings with the district authorities to review the status of promoting the schedules castes people and on the pending vacancies for employing the people who fall under the grounds of scheduled caste and tribe.
While being questioned on the rise of caste discrimination towards violating the basic rights of dalits, vice chairman Murugan had expressed his unfortunate state to witness such mechanisms of discrimination prevailing in Tamil Nadu and he further cited that the state government of Tamil Nadu should table the law to ensure that all communities have access to the common grounds of crematorium like how the state of Karnataka had passed similar legislation.
He further stated that the Madurai corporation houses a central liaison officer to address the grievances of the employees and directed the district authorities to appoint a separate officer for SC/ST division to lay out effective platform of redressal towards the issues and grievances faced by the dalits and other backward communities.
He instructed the officials to make sure that the salary of the daily wage employees who work in sanitary department has been getting deposited directly to their bank accounts.
The district of Madurai had accounted for the rampant face of casteism followed by the district of Vellore where both of the districts had seen the rights of Dalits have been vanished and violated after the dalit communities have denied the access to the common crematorium by the upward caste people to cremate the corpse. The discriminatory incident in Madurai had shown that the family belong to the deceased Dalit have been stranded upon without having place to bury the body after which they stood under rain and pleaded to the district authorities to counter the violations committed by the upward caste people.
