In what has become a significant revelation, an analysis done by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) has brought the wealth of the incumbent Chief Ministers to light. The democratic and electoral watchdog has arrived at the figures after analyzing the poll affidavits disclosed by the Chief Ministers.
India has 30 Chief Ministers - 28 of them rule the states and the rest two rule Union Territories - Delhi and Puducherry. According to the crucial research, 29 of the current 30 Chief Ministers are crorepatis and the report has also the pending criminal cases against the Chief Ministers.
In the ranking, Andhra Pradesh's Jagan Mohan Reddy has taken the first spot as India's richest Chief Minister with the wealth of Rs 510 crore. Following Reddy is his Arunchal Pradesh counterpart Pema Khandu, whose wealth stands at Rs 163 crore. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is the third richest Chief Minister with the wealth of Rs 63 crore.
Nagaland's Neiphiu Rio has Rs 46 crore as his wealth followed by Puducherry's Rangasamy - Rs 38 crore, Telangana's Chandrasekhar Rao - Rs 23 crore, Chattisgarh's Bhupesh Baghel - Rs 23 crore, Assam's Himanta Biswa Sarma - Rs 17 crore, Meghalaya's Conrad Sangma - Rs 15 crore, Tripura's Manik Saha - Rs 13 crore, Maharashtra's Eknath Shinde - Rs 11 crore, Goa's Pramod Sawant - Rs 9 crore, Karnataka's Basavaraj Bommai - Rs 8 crore.
The analysis said Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin's wealth is Rs 8 crore followed by Jharkhand's Hemant Soren has Rs 8 crore. Gujarat's Bhupendra Patel shares the same rank with Stalin and Soren while Himachal Pradesh's Sukhvinder Singh and Madhya Pradesh's Shivraj Singh Chouhan have Rs 7 crore each. Rajasthan's Ashok Gehlot has Rs 6 crore as his wealth value followed by Uttarakhand's Pushkar Singh Dhami - Rs 4 crore.
Sikkim's Prem Singh Tamang has Rs 3 crore followed by Mizoram's Zoramthanga - Rs 3 crore, Delhi's Arvind Kejriwal - Rs 3 crore, Bihar's Nitish Kumar - Rs 3 crore, Punjab's Bhagwant Mann - Rs 1 crore, Uttar Pradesh's Yogi Adityanath - Rs 1 crore. Manipur's Biren Singh, Haryana's Manohar Lal Khattar, and Kerala's Pinarayi Vijayan share the rest of the rankings with the wealth value of over Rs 1 crore.
While these 29 Chief Ministers are crorepatis, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has a weak asset value and is declared as India's poorest Chief Minister. According to ADR, Mamata Banerjee has total assets of about Rs 15 lakh. By citing that the 97 per cent of Chief Ministers are crorepatis, the analysis has highlighted that the average asset value is Rs 33.96 crore.
On the other hand, the ADR report has also said that out of the 30 Chief Ministers, 13 Chief Ministers (43 per cent) have declared serious criminal cases against them and the charges include murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping, and criminal intimidation. These cases are non-bailable offences and would warrant five years of incarceration. Besides topping the table of high liabilities, Telangana's K Chandrashekhar Rao has also topped the table with more criminal cases than any other Chief Ministers.
ADR report said that Rao has 64 criminal cases against him and these include 37 serious offences. A majority of cases pending against him were booked during the separate Telangana statehood agitation. After Chandrasekhar Rao,Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has the second highest number of cases with 47 pending cases against him. The cases against Stalin include ten serious offences and following Stalin is Andhra Pradesh's Jagan Mohan Reddy with 38 pending cases.
