Dhanush, who won the National award for his performance in Asuran, has been experimenting with different genres and roles in his recent films. He has several films lined up for release, such as Captain Miller with Arun Matheswaran, D50, Vada Chennai 2. After the blockbuster success of Karnan, Dhanush and Mari Selvaraj are all set to team up again for another film.

The director in the latest media talk, revealed that the new film will be a historical drama that will showcase the glory of Tamil culture and history. He also said that the film script was written for last three years. The film is expected to be a mega-budget project that will take the actor-director duo to the next level.

He said, "It will be a historical based subject . This movie is a very important film in my career. That's why i needed some time to shape up the movie. This movie will take me and Dhanush sir into next level," Mari Selvaraj made his directorial debut with Pariyerum Perumal, which was a critically acclaimed film that dealt with caste oppression and discrimination.

His second film, Karnan, starring Dhanush, was an action-drama that focused on the struggle of a poor community against the many injustices they face. The film was praised for its powerful storytelling and performances and was one of the most successful films at the box office in 2021.

The new film with Mari Selvaraj will be Dhanush will be produced by Dhanush's own banner Wunderbar Films and Zee Studios South. The film is likely to go on floors in early 2024, as both the actor and the director are busy with their respective commitments. Mari Selvaraj is currently working on the post-production of his political drama Maamanan, which features Udhayanidhi Stalin, Keerthy Suresh, Fahadh Faasil and Vadivelu in lead roles. The music for the film is composed by AR Rahman.
