The current edition of the Olympics, hosted by Tokyo, is on its third day on Monday and India has sent one of the largest contingents to the Japanese capital with significant participation of women. With a lot of faith, India had in their athletes, The starting of Day 3 was fresh and glorious. However, much-expected Bhavani Devi had disappointed by losing her Round of 32 Match and getting knocked out, unfortunately, even she win on debut. Another blow to India's chase for medals, Atanu Das, Pravin Jadhav, and Tarundeep Rai had lost to Korea in Archery Quarterfinals, piling up the setback.
Sharath Kamal gave hope by winning the Second Round match against Portugal in Men's Singles Table Tennis but it was the end for Sutirtha Mukerjee, the fellow paddler of Women's Singles Round 2. Men’s Doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty also flagged a straight-game loss to Marcus Gideon Fernaldi and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo of Indonesia in their second Group A match of Badminton.
Adding to this, Sumit Nagal lost Round 2 in Men's Singles Round 2 Tennis. Angad and Mairaj bow out in the qualification round, as Angad Vir Singh Bajwa finished 18th and Mairaj Ahmad Khan ended 25th in the men’s skeet event. Manika Batra had missed the chance of winning in the third round of Women's Singles Round 3 Table Tennis.
Meanwhile, in Boxing, Ashish Kumar became the 3rd Indian male boxer to lose in the 1st Round at Tokyo Olympics. Sajan Prakash finished the fourth of Men's 20m Butterfly Heat 2, failed to qualify for the semifinals, who clocked a personal best of 1:56:38 in Italy last month. One key victory for India on Monday is Sharath Kumar Achanta's triumph over Portugal's Apolonia in Men's Singles Round 2 of Table Tennis. In another setback, the Indian Women Hockey Team was defeated by Germany in 0-2.
