As Chennai prepares to brace up for Cyclone Nivar which will be making landfall on Wednesday evening during which the city will receive heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, the Greater Chennai Corporation has installed a control room in every zone to address the emergency calls and relief efforts to the residents of the city. The control rooms across the city will be monitored by a team at Ripon Buildings, which is the headquarters of the civic body.
The corporation has distributed emergency contact numbers to which the people can reach for in case of emergency and assistance, and to report the grievances concerning electricity supply. Residents can reach out to the below numbers based on the zones.

Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami has on Tuesday declared a public holiday for the state on Wednesday and appealed to the people to stay indoors. According to the Regional Meteorological Center, Chennai, the cyclone was centered 320 kms from Puducherry coast and 380 kms from Chennai coast in the Bay of Bengal as of Wednesday morning. The cyclone is expected to make landfall between Karaikkal in Puducherry and Mamallapuram in Tamil Nadu between the night of November 25 and the early morning hours of November 26.
The Commissioner of Greater Chennai Corporation said that all precautionary measures have been taken by the civic body and the relief teams, engineers, contractors, special machinery, and 600 heavy-duty pump sets have been deployed and the Commissioner has asked people not to panic about the situation and asserted that the things are extremely under control. Chennai police commissioner Mahesh Aggarwal said that 12 disaster relief teams are ready to tackle and respond to the cyclone and to carry out the relief efforts.
The Tamil Nadu government has decided to release excess water from Chembarambakkam lake on Wednesday after the lake was overflown due to heavy rainfall. According to reports, the excess water was released from the lake at 12 pm on Wednesday. Around 1000 cusecs of water will be released from the Chembarambakkam lake and the government has begun the evacuation process of evacuating people from the banks of the Adyar river. The Chennai Corporation has arranged 169 relief centers across the city to accommodate the evacuated people and relief works and the government has asked the people to stay vigilant.
