With the strongest energy and boost over victoriously opening its battle, Dhoni's fleet of lions has been preparing to take on Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday- September 22 and the fourth match of the premier league would be hosted by Sharjah as the kings are mulling to retain its dominance over the royals whereas the latter has been hoping to have a breakthrough to open the season with the victory.
Dhoni and his squad had a welcoming start in the current season after defeating the defending champions Mumbai Indians in the first match. Being packed with young talents and game-changers, the match would not be less than the level of expectations with Royals coming up with squad and strategies to defeat Dhoni's fleet. As both teams have the might and efficacy to fight till the last ball, let's see some of the exciting things and players to watch out for during the match.
Rajasthan has been one of the teams that had witnessed a fierce dominance from Chennai Super Kings during the previous seasons. So far, both the teams had come head-to-head in 22 matches and CSK has won 14 matches while Royals had registered a victory in the rest of eight matches. Though the absence of the key players, Rajasthan Royals have kept its hope on Steven Smith, the skipper, who would drive the team for a breakthrough. The major drawback for the team would be the absence of Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes.
While Jos Buttler has been under quarantine with his family, Ben Stokes hasn't joined the squad and both the leaders are expected to join the Royals in its next match. Steven Smith & Co has notable players in the squad including David Miller and Jofra Archer, who would be traveling with Smith over proving its capability by defeating the Super Kings. As the official playing XI squad is yet to announce, it has been predicted that the team would be having Steven Smith, Sanju Samson, Robin Uthappa, Steve Smith, David Miller, Shreyas Gopal, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rahul Tewatia, Jofra Archer, Oshane Thomas, Jaydev Unadkat, and Mayank Markande.
Chennai Super Kings are also embracing the absence of top players like Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh. However, Dhoni's army had defeated its rival Mumbai Indians in the tournament opener. While being packed with the legends and talents, CSK's Sam Curran would be drawing major spotlight in Tuesday's match, as he has shined and impressed with bat and ball in the first match against the defending champions.
Some of the players to watch out for during the CSK and RR match include Sam Curran, Sanju Samson, Jaydev Unadkat, Faf du Plessis, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Lungi Ngidi. Delving about Chennai's squad, it is less likely that Dhoni would change the squad that defeated Mumbai. However, the Men in Yellow would possibly be missing Dwayne Bravo as, according to CSK coach Stephen Fleming, the all-rounder has still been recovering from his injury.
Beyond the win-loss count, the match would be unveiling the milestones and records. If Dhoni manages to hit five sixes against the Royals on Tuesday, he will be joining in the list of players who had crossed 300 sixes in the IPL. Rohit Sharma tops the table by smashing 361 sixes followed by Suresh Raina with 311 sixes. If Dhoni hits five sixes, he would breach the tally of 300 and would become the third Indian batsman to achieve the feat.
Dhoni is not the only one who is near the record as Rajasthan's Robin Uthappa would be completing 25 IPL fifties if he manages and faces the Chennai's bowling line up and score a fifty in today's match. CSK's Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu need 43 and 45 runs respectively to complete 1000 IPL runs for the team whereas RR's David Miller would be completing 50 IPL catches if he scores one on Tuesday's match.
The match would be hosted by Sharjah and would begin at 7.30 pm IST. The pitch at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium would possibly be helping the pacers in the beginning. However, spinners would be the game-changers. CSK had already played a game on the ground previously which would add as an advantage for Dhoni's fleet in dominating the Rajasthan Royals in the current season.
