From COVID-19 vaccine to self-reliance: What's in PM Modi's 74th I-Day speech?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has delivered his address to the nation from the Red Fort on the occasion of India's 74th Independence Day on Saturday during which he unveiled the pack of his speech by touching upon various areas including the COVID-19 vaccine and the government's vision of making India a self-reliant country. 

Addressing from the ramparts of the historical monument, the Prime Minister reiterated his government's vision of a self-reliant India. He said that the country must become self-reliant and must make use of its vast natural resources to produce for the domestic and the global market. 

In what has become unprecedented dwindle of the I-Day celebrations in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak, the Prime Minister took the prospect of vowing to the nation that India nears to get a cure for the global pandemic. Narendra Modi said India is ready to mass-produce COVID-19 vaccines when scientists give their nod, as the nation's discovery of the indigenous vaccine has been hoped to give a major breakthrough in the fight against the pandemic. 

 

The Prime Minister said, "Not one, not two, as many as three Coronavirus vaccines are being tested in India". By citing that the country is ready for mass production of those vaccines, Modi stated that along with mass production, the roadmap for distribution of vaccine to every single Indian in the least possible time is also ready.

Modi has launched a National Digital Health Mission for the country of 1.3 billion and he further highlighted that health and economic self-reliance as his government's key priorities. He said 130 crore Indians have pledged to build 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' amid battling the COVID-19 outbreak.

Speaking about Aatmanirbhar Bharat, the Prime Minister said that self-reliant India would not only reduce the country's dependence on the imports from the foreign nations but also strengthening the capacity, skills, and creativity of the country. By noting that the path of self-reliant India would have several challenges, the Prime Minister asserted that it also has millions of solutions.

 

Addressing from one of the powerful podiums, the Prime Minister expressed his confidence that India will realize this dream of self-reliance. He said, "I am confident of the abilities, confidence, and potential of my fellow Indians. Once we decide to do something, we do not rest till we achieve that goal". "Now we have to move ahead with the mantra of make for the world along with Make in India", he added.

He went on to press the 'Vocal for Local' call and stated that India should strive to meet the needs of the world and said that the country has always believed that the entire world is one family. Humanity must be in the central role in the process and journey while the country focuses on economic growth and development.

His address has become his seventh Independence Day speech in a row and second after he retained the power at the Center in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. The Prime Minister had taken the prospect of his address to thank the COVID-19 warriors and frontline workers on behalf of the nation for their services. He further said that India was not producing masks, PPE, and ventilators before the COVID-19 outbreak and now the country has attained the position of exporting them to other nations. 

 

Speaking about the National Digital Health Mission, the Prime Minister said that the mission for 1.3 billion people will remove all the challenges in the treatments including the doctor's appointment, running for documents, and depositing money for the treatments. Addressing the border tensions, Modi said the Indian soldiers had responded for whoever tried to raise their eyes towards the sovereignty of India. While speaking about the construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the Prime Minister said, "Construction of a grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya started 10 days ago. Ramjanmabhoomi issue that prevailed for centuries, has been resolved peacefully. The conduct of people of the country has been unprecedented and is an inspiration for future".
