The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 6,472 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Thursday which had taken the state's tally beyond 1.92 lakh by reporting 1,92,964 cases in its territory so far including active, recovered, and deceased patients.
Amid the containment measures and restrictions imposed to flatten the COVID-19 curve, Tamil Nadu has been witnessing the biggest jump in the number of COVID-19 cases and for the first time since the outbreak, the state has reported more than 6000 cases in a single day which also became the highest single-day rise recorded by the state, surpassing the previous tally of 5,849 cases that were reported on Wednesday.
According to the press release issued by the state health department, Tamil Nadu has tested 21,57,869 samples so far of which 62,112- highest since the outbreak, were tested on Thursday of which 6,472 returned positive for the pandemic. These 6,472 cases include the influx of 49 people who returned to the state from other regions, exemplifying that the state has been witnessing a peak of the indigenous cases.

Of these 6,472 cases, 3,933 are males and the rest 2,539 are female patients. According to the press release, over 70% of the cases of the current reporting were recorded outside Chennai. 21 districts have reported over a hundred cases. 1,336 cases belong to Chennai, 480 cases belong to Virudhunagar, 416 cases belong to Thiruvallur, and Thoothukudi has reported 415 cases.
Chengalpattu has reported 375 cases, 330 cases from Kancheepuram, 274 cases belong to Madurai, 246 cases belong to Tirunelveli, 238 cases belong to Coimbatore, 214 cases belong to Ranipet, 193 cases belong to Tiruvannamalai, 190 cases belong to Trichy, 188 cases belong to Theni, 137 cases belong to Kanyakumari, 134 cases belong to Kallakurichi, 122 cases belong to Thanjavur, 117 cases belong to Vellore, and 112 cases belong to Villupuram.
Pudukottai has reported 111 cases and 107 and 100 cases reported from Dindigul and Ramanathapuram respectively. In the abstract, 5,136 fresh cases were reported outside Chennai. The state has reported 5,210 fresh discharges taking the total number of discharges to 1,36,793 so far. The state has also reported 88 fresh deaths through which the death toll currently stands at 3232.
Of these 88 deaths, 63 were recorded at the government hospitals, and the rest were reported at the private establishments. According to the press release, of these 88 deaths, 11 belong to Chennai, eight each from Madurai and Thiruvallur, six each from Coimbatore, Dindigul, and Trichy, five from Kancheepuram, four each from Chengalpattu and Tenkasi, three each from Cuddalore, Theni, Tiruvannamalai, Tirunelveli, Vellore, and Virudhunagar.
Two each from Kanyakumari and Villupuram and one each from Krishnagiri, Namakkal, Perambalur, Ranipet, Salem, Sivagangai, Thanjavur, and Tiruppur. 77 out of total of 88 deaths were identified with co-morbid conditions including diabetes and hypertension. With the current reporting of 1336 cases, Chennai has recorded 90,900 cases so far of which 75,384 have been discharged.
At the current state, Chennai (90,900), Chengalpattu (10,888), Thiruvallur (10,627) are three districts of the state that crossed the tally of 10,000 cases followed by Madurai with 8984 cases. As of Thursday, Tamil Nadu has reported 1,92,964 cases so far of which 52,939 are active, 1,36,793 have been recovered, and 3,232 had succumbed to the virus.
