The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 1,515 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Tuesday taking the total tally beyond 48,000 by reporting 48,019 cases so far in its territory including the active, discharged, and deceased patients.
The current reporting of 1,515 cases had slightly declined the graph which was facing in the upward direction after the state had reported close to 2000 cases each day for the past few days. According to the official press release issued by the state health department, Tamil Nadu has tested 7,48,244 samples so far including 19,242 samples -highest testing since the outbreak, that were tested on Tuesday of which 1,515 returned positive for the pandemic.
These 1,515 cases include 61 patients who returned to the state from other regions (25 came from Maharashtra, ten from Rajasthan, five came from Karnataka, four each from Delhi and Gujarat, three each from Kerala and Uttar Pradesh, two from Andhra Pradesh, and one each from Malaysia, Qatar, Telangana, Jharkhand, and Pondicherry.

Of these 1,515 cases, 942 are males and the rest 573 are female patients. About 70% of the cases belong to Chennai, Chengalpattu, Thiruvallur, and Kancheepuram. According to the press release, of these 1,515 cases, 919 belong to Chennai, 88 belong to Chengalpattu, 52 belong to Thirvallur, and 46 belong to Kancheepuram. The state has reported 1,438 fresh discharges and the number is very close to the current reporting of fresh cases.
Through reporting one of the highest single-day rises in discharges, the state has recorded 26,782 discharges so far, which are highest than the active COVID-19 cases in the state. While the state has reported fewer cases compared to the count reported for the past few days, it has also reported 49 fresh deaths which had taken the death toll past 500 by reporting 528 so far.
According to the Union Health Ministry, Tamil Nadu is the fourth Indian state after Maharashtra, Gurajat, and Delhi to report over 500 deaths. The current reporting of 49 deaths has become the highest single-day rise in deaths recorded by the state since the outbreak. Of these 49 deaths, 40 belong to Chennai and of the remaining nine, three each from Thiruvallur and Chengalpattu, and one each from Kancheepuram, Madurai, and Ranipet.
Of these 49, 46 deceased had co-morbid conditions which are one of the major causes behind the death of the viral infection. Chennai has reported 919 fresh cases and the city has reported less than a thousand cases for the first time after 13 days and the city's total tally stands at 34,245 making it one of the worst-affected cities in India.
As of Tuesday evening, the state has reported 48,019 positive cases so far -second highest in India after Maharashtra, of which 20,706 are active - including isolation, 26,782 have been discharged, and 528 had succumbed to the virus. The Tamil Nadu state government has, on Monday, announced that it has imposed the complete lockdown in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, and Thiruvallur for 12 days from June 19 to June 30 in the wake of the exponential rise of the COVID-19 cases.
