COVID-19: TN reports over 100 deaths for the second consecutive day as the death toll soars!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 5,063 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Tuesday which had taken the state's tally beyond 2.68 lakh by reporting 2,68,285 positive cases so far including the active, recovered, and deceased patients. 

According to the official press release issued by the state Health Department, Tamil Nadu has tested 28,92,395 samples so far including 55,122 that were tested on Tuesday of which 5,063 tested positive for the viral infection. These 5,063 cases include the influx of 28 people who returned to the state from other regions. Of these 5,063 cases, 3,041 are males and the rest 2,022 are female patients. 

 

The press release stated that 15 districts of the state have reported heavy caseloads in the current reporting. Chennai has reported 1,023 cases, Virudhunagar has reported 424 cases, Thiruvallur has reported 358 cases, 292 cases belong to Theni, 264 cases belong to Cuddalore, 245 cases from Chengalpattu, 228 cases from Coimbatore, and Kancheepuram has reported 220 cases.

Thoothukudi has reported 189 cases, 160 cases from Vellore, 155 cases from Tirunelveli, 149 cases belong to Kallakurichi, 141 cases belong to Sivagangai, 132 and 128 cases from Thiruvannamalai and Kanyakumari respectively. The state has reported 6,501 fresh discharges which had taken the total tally of discharges to 2,08,784 so far. 

The state has also reported 108 fresh deaths-yet another biggest spikes in deaths, through which the death toll currently stands at 4,349. According to the press release, of these 108 deaths, 83 deaths were reported at the government hospitals and the rest 25 were reported at the private establishments. Of these 108 deaths, 23 deaths belong to Chennai. Tamil Nadu's single-day death toll has crossed 100 for the second consecutive day and the unprecedented spikes had exemplified that the COVID-19 deaths have been soaring amid the decline of the cases. 

Of these 108 deaths, 99 deaths were reported with co-morbid conditions largely including diabetes and hypertension, which are playing a major role in the deaths claimed by the viral infection. According to the Union Health Ministry, Tamil Nadu is the second Indian state with the most number of COVID-19 deaths after Maharashtra, which had reported 15,842 as of Tuesday morning. 

With the current reporting of 1,023 cases, Chennai has recorded 1,04,027 cases so far of which 89,969 have been discharged and 2,202 had died of the viral infection. As of Tuesday, Tamil Nadu has reported 2,68,285 cases so far of which 55,152 are active, 2,08,784 have been recovered, and 4,349 had succumbed to the virus.
