The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 6,993 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Monday which had taken the state's tally beyond 2.2 lakh by reporting 2,20,716 cases so far including active, recovered, and deceased patients.
The current reporting of 6,993 cases has been recorded as the highest single-day rise of COVID-19 cases in the state, surpassing the previous tally of 6,986 cases that were reported on Sunday and the through the current reporting, the state has reported more than 6,500 cases for the fifth consecutive day, amid the containment measures and restrictions.

According to the official press release issued by the health department, Tamil Nadu has tested 24,14,713 samples so far including 63,250 that were tested on Monday of which 6,993 returned positive for the viral infection. These 6,993 cases include 37 people who returned to the state from other regions.
Of these 6,993 cases, 4,162 are males and the rest of 2,831 are female patients. The press release stated that 22 districts have contributed major caseloads in the current reporting. Chennai has reported 1,138 cases, Thiruvallur has reported 474 cases, Chengalpattu has reported 448 cases, 362 cases belong to Kancheepuram, 349 cases from Thoothukudi, 338 cases belong to Virudhunagar, 313 cases from Coimbatore.
Theni has reported 280 cases, 273 cases belong to Ranipet, 267 cases belong to Tiruvannamalai, 249 cases from Madurai, 239 cases belong to Kanyakumari, 238 cases from Kancheepuram, 191 cases belong to Tirunelveli, 190 cases from Salem, 188 cases from Trichy, 184 cases belong to Vellore, 139 cases from Villupuram, 133 cases from Dindigul, 115 cases belong to Thanjavur, 112 and 109 cases from Tenkasi and Cuddalore respectively.
The state has reported 5,723 fresh discharges which had taken the total number of discharges to 1,62,249 so far. The state has also recorded 77 fresh deaths taking the death toll to 3,571 so far. According to the press release, of these 77 deaths, 50 reported in the government hospitals and the rest 27 were reported in the private establishments. Of these 77 deaths, 21 deaths belong to Chennai, six each from Chengalpattu, Madurai, Tiruvallur, Vellore, and Virudhunagar.
Kancheepuram has reported five deaths, three each from Coimbatore and Tenkasi, two each from Kallakurichi, Ramanathapuram, Salem, and Sivagangai, and one each from Dindigul, Nagapattinam, Ranipet, Theni, Thirupathur, Tiruppur, and Trichy. 69 out of 77 deaths had been identified with the co-morbid conditions.
Though reporting a drop, Chennai's tally nears 1 lakh and with the current reporting of 1,138 cases, the city has recorded 95,857 cases so far of which 80,761 have been discharged and 2,032 had died due to the viral infection. As of Monday, Tamil Nadu has reported 2,20,716 cases so far of which 54,896 are active, 1,62,249 have been recovered, and 3,571 had succumbed to the virus.
