COVID-19: TN reports with eight new cases including a 10-month-old child!

Despite being brought the state under the complete lockdown by imposing curfew and restrictions to curb the spread of the Coronavirus, Tamil Nadu has been witnessing surging cases as on Sunday, the state reported with eight fresh cases, including a 10-month-old child, which were tested positive for the virus and with the soaring high numbers, the total number of affected cases stands at 50 so far in its territory including the active, recovered, and deceased patients.

According to state health minister Vijayabaskar, these eight positive cases are from Erode district and all of them had come in direct contact with the Thailand Nationals who are already tested positive for the virus and getting treated in IRT Perundurai Medical college in the district. The Minister further stated that the patients were identified through the contract tracing and asserted that all the eight patients are isolated and getting treated. The reports say that of these eight, four have been admitted at IRT Perundurai while the rest have been getting treated at the ESI Hospital in Coimbatore. 

 

On Sunday evening, Tamil Nadu Health Secretary Beela Rajesh addressed the reporters concerning the latest developments during which she issued conformity that the number currently stands at 50 after eight have tested positive in Erode. She stated that of these eight, four belong the same family and all the eight patients, including a ten-month-old child, had come in direct contact with the two Thai nationals and these people were already under quarantine and now they have tested positive for the virus following which they have been isolated and hospitalized.

She stated that the health department is examing the entire state on whether the epidemic is spreading across the state and added that the state currently houses 43,538 people who returned from foreign countries and the health department authorities have been testing these people directly in their residences. 

 

Although the curfew to arrest the people's movement is still in place, the state has been reported with nearly 38 cases in the past few days and most of the positive cases have travel histories to different countries. On Friday, the state has marked its highest single-day rise in cases as it has reported with nine positive cases in a day. On the other hand, health minister Vijayabaskar had revealed some welcoming developments as two US return patients who tested positive for the virus earlier had discharged from Stanley medical college hospital in Chennai on Sunday after they tested negative twice. The Minister added that they will be home-quarantined for the next 14 days.

According to the minister, the state has screened 2,09, 284 passengers to date. About 1,763 samples have been tested of which 50 returned positive and 89 samples are under process and the rest were negative. As of Sunday evening, the state has reported with 50 positive cases of which 44 are active and five have been discharged including two latest discharges and one - a 54-year-old man had died due to the pandemic on last Wednesday in Madurai making the state to record its first fatality and the rest of the active cases have been getting treated at various hospitals across the state and these include Indian and foreign nationals and the state government is gripping up the measures to tackle the spread of the virus, which gets transmitted through humans.
