The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 6,352 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Saturday taking the state's total tally to 4,15,590 positive cases so far including active, recovered, and deceased patients.
According to the official press release issued by the state health department, Tamil Nadu has tested 46,54,797 samples so far including 80,988 that were tested on Saturday of which 6,352 had returned positive for the viral infection. These 6,352 cases include the influx of 26 people who returned to the state from other regions. Of these 6,352 cases, 3,881 are males and 2,471 are female patients.
The press release stated that 23 districts had accounted for a major contribution of cases in the current reporting. Chennai has reported 1,285 fresh cases, 491 cases belong to Coimbatore, 432 cases belong to Salem, 420 cases from Cuddalore, 306 cases belong to Chengalpattu, 284 cases belong to Thiruvallur, and 242 cases belong to Kancheepuram.
Vellore has reported 178 cases, Villupuram has reported 171 cases, 161 cases from Kanyakumari, 156 cases from Erode, 154 cases belong to Tirunelveli, 152 cases from Thiruvannamalai, 151 cases from Ranipet, 134 cases from Thanjavur, 129 cases belong to Dindigul, 126 cases from Virudhunagar, 125 cases from Theni, 124 cases belong to Pudukottai, 115 cases from Madurai, 102 cases each from Thiruvarur and Trichy, and 100 cases belong to Tiruppur.
The state has reported 6,045 fresh discharges which had taken the total tally of discharges to 3,55,727 so far. The state has recorded 87 fresh deaths through which the death toll currently stands at 7,137 so far. According to the press release, of these 87 deaths, 59 deaths were recorded at the government hospitals and the rest 28 recorded at the private establishments. Of these 87 deaths, 17 belong to Chennai and 82 out of 87 deaths had been identified with comorbidities.
According to the data from the health department, Tamil Nadu has reported 3,005 deaths for the past 27 days including Saturday, making the state to rank at the second spot in India with the most number of COVID-19 deaths after Maharashtra. Chennai has recorded a spike in fresh cases and with the current reporting of 1,285 fresh cases, Chennai has recorded 1,33,173 cases so far of which 1,16,808 have been discharged and 2,712 had died due to the global pandemic.
As of Saturday - August 29, Tamil Nadu has reported 4,15,590 cases so far of which 52,726 are active, 3,55,727 have been discharged, and 7,137 had succumbed to the viral infection.
