COVID-19: TN reports the biggest spike of 4,985 cases of which 3,687 are outside Chennai!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 4,985 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Monday which had taken the state's tally beyond 1.75 lakh by reporting 1,75,678 so far in its territory including active, discharged, and deceased patients.

The current reporting of 4,985 cases has been recorded as the highest single-day rise in the state since the outbreak by surpassing the previous tally of 4,979 cases that were reported on Sunday. According to the official press release issued by the state Health Department, Tamil Nadu has tested 19,84,579 samples so far including 52,087 that were tested on Monday of which 4,985 returned positive for the virus.

 

These 4,985 cases include the influx of 55 people who returned to the state from other regions. Of these 4,985 cases, 2,921 are males and the rest 2,064 are female patients. According to the press release, Chennai has been majorly contributing to the rise along with the active contribution from the other districts. In the current reporting, 13 districts have reported over a hundred cases each.

Chennai has reported 1,298 cases, Thiruvallur has reported 454 cases, 354 cases belong to Chengalpattu, 329 cases belong to Kancheepuram, 200 cases belong to Thoothukudi, 180 cases belong to Tirunelveli, 169 cases belong to Virudhunagar, 151 cases belong to Tiruvannamalai, 139 cases belong to Coimbatore, 114 cases belong to Vellore, 107 cases belong to Theni, 106 cases belong to Madurai, and Tenkasi has reported 103 cases.

The state has reported 3,861 fresh discharges taking the tally of the total number of discharges to 1,21,776 so far. The state has recorded 70 deaths which had taken the death toll to 2,551 so far. According to the press release, of these 70 deaths, 49 were reported from the government hospitals while the rest are from the private establishments. 

Of these 70 deaths, 22 belong to Chennai, nine belong to Thiruvallur, seven belong to Chengalpattu, five belong to Madurai, four belong to Trichy, and three each from Kancheepuram, and Pudukottai, two each from Coimbatore and Ramanathapuram, and one each from Cuddalore, Dharmapuri, Kallkurichi, Kanyakumari, Perambalur, Ranipet, Salem, Thirupathur, Thoothukudi, Tiruppur, Vellore, Villupuram, and Virudhunagar. 

The death toll has been on the upward direction for the past few days with the rise in Chennai and active numbers from districts outside Chennai. The state's death toll stood at 1,264 on July 1st and in three weeks, the state has added 1,300 more deaths to its count. According to the Union Health Ministry, Tamil Nadu is the third Indian state with the most number of COVID-19 deaths after Maharashtra and Delhi. 

With the current reporting of 1,298 cases, Chennai has recorded 87,235 cases so far. Chengalpattu has crossed the tally of 10,000 by reporting 10,027 cases while the districts like Thiruvallur and Madurai are nearing to hit the tally of 10,000 by reporting 9,424 and 8,357 cases respectively. 

As of Monday, Tamil Nadu has reported 1,75,678 cases so far of which 51,348 are active, 1,21,776 have been recovered, and 2,551 had succumbed to the virus.
