The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 5,914 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Monday which had taken the state's total tally beyond 3 lakh by reporting 3,02,815 positive cases so far in its territory including active, recovered, and deceased patients.
Tamil Nadu has become the second Indian state to attain the never-wished feat of 3 lakh cases after Maharashtra. According to the Tamil Nadu's health department press release that was released on Monday, the state has tested 32,92,958 samples so far including 67,153 that were tested on Monday of which 5,914 have confirmed to have contracted to the viral infection. These 5,914 cases include the influx of 35 people who returned to the state from various regions including the rest of Indian states and abroad.

Of these 5,914 cases, 3,532 are males and the rest 2,382 are female patients. As the state's count neared 6000, the press release stated that 19 districts in the state had accounted for major caseloads in the current reporting. Chennai has reported 976 cases, 483 cases belong to Chengalpattu, 399 cases from Thiruvallur, 357 cases belong to Theni, and 310 cases from Kancheepuram.
Coimbatore has reported 292 cases, 287 cases belong to Cuddalore, 205 cases belong to Kancheepuram, 196 cases belong to Thoothukudi, 189 cases each from Virudhunagar and Vellore, 184 cases belong to Ranipet, 173 cases from Dindigul, 154 cases from Thiruvannamalai, 133 cases from Pudukottai, 128 cases belong to Salem, 123 cases belong to Thanjavur, 114 and 100 cases from Tenkasi and Madurai respectively.
The state has reported 6,037 fresh discharges through which the current tally of discharges stands at 2,44,675 so far. The state has recorded 114 fresh deaths taking the death toll to 5,041 so far and with the new spike, India has become the second state in India with the most number of COVID-19 deaths after Maharashtra. Through the current reporting of 114 deaths, the state has reported over a hundred single-day deaths for the eighth consecutive day as the death toll surges amid the drop of fresh cases in some of the important districts.
According to the press release, of these 114 deaths, 80 deaths were recorded at the government hospitals while the rest 34 were recorded at the private establishments. Of these 114 deaths, 25 belong to Chennai. 105 deaths out of 114 were identified with co-morbid conditions, which largely play an important role in the COVID-19 deaths. For the past eight days, including Monday, the state has recorded 909 deaths amid the containment measures.
Chennai has reported below thousand cases for the fourth consecutive day and with the current reporting of 976 cases, the city has recorded 1,10,121 cases so far of which 96,466 have been discharged while 2,327 had died of the pandemic. As far as the death toll is concerned, seven districts in the state had crossed the toll of a hundred each - Chennai with 2,237 deaths, 312 from Chengalpattu, 293 from Madurai, 290 from Thiruvallur, 154 from Kancheepuram, 139 from Virudhunagar, and 132 from Coimbatore.
As of Monday - August 10, Tamil Nadu has reported 3,02,815 cases so far of which 53,099 are active, 2,44,675 have been recovered, and 5,041 had succumbed to the virus.
