The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 5,880 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Friday which had taken the state's tally beyond 2.85 lakh by reporting 2,85,024 positive cases so far including active, recovered, and deceased patients.
According to the official press release issued by the state health department, Tamil Nadu has tested 30,88,066 samples so far including 67,352 that were tested on Friday of which 5,880 returned positive for the viral infection. These 5,880 cases include the influx of 24 people who returned to the state from other regions. Of these 5,880 cases, 3,445 are males, and 2,435 are female patients.
The press release stated that 22 districts had reported over a hundred cases each in the current reporting. Chennai has reported 984 cases, 388 cases belong to Thiruvallur, Theni has reported 351 cases, Chengalpattu has reported 319 cases, 253 cases belong to Ranipet, 252 cases from Thiruvannamalai, 228 cases from Coimbatore, 217 cases from Thanjavur, 212 cases from Cuddalore, and 200 cases from Tirunelveli.
Thoothukudi has reported 195 cases, 187 cases belong to Kanyakumari, 173 cases from Pudukottai, 168 cases belong to Salem, 166 cases from Kancheepuram, 158 cases from Vellore, 139 cases belong to Kallakurichi, 134 cases from Dindigul, 117 cases from Tenkasi, 109 cases belong to Madurai, and 105 and 101 cases from Trichy and Virudhunagar respectively.
The state has reported 6,488 fresh discharges which had taken the total tally of discharges to 2,27,575 so far. The state has also recorded 119 deaths taking the death toll to 4,690 so far. The current reporting of 119 deaths has been recorded as the highest single-day rise of deaths since the outbreak and through the current reporting of 119 deaths, the state has reported over a hundred single-day deaths for the fifth consecutive day.
According to the press release, of these 119 deaths, 78 deaths were recorded at the government hospitals and the rest 41 were recorded at the private establishments. Of these 119 deaths, 24 deaths belong to the Chennai while the rest was contributed by the districts outside Chennai. According to the state health department, Tamil Nadu has reported 558 deaths in the last five days including Friday which exemplified the biggest increase in the mortality rate and further burdened the government and frontline workers to curb the spread and to prevent the vulnerable population.
Of these 119 deaths, 115 deaths were identified with comorbidities largely diabetes, hypertension, and respiratory failure. For the first time over weeks, Chennai has reported below a thousand cases amid the restrictions and lockdown. With the current reporting of 984 cases, Chennai has recorded 1,07,109 cases so far of which 93,231 have been discharged and 2,272 had died of the viral infection.
As of Friday, Tamil Nadu has reported 2,85,024 cases so far of which 52,759 are active, 2,27,575 have been recovered, and 4,690 had succumbed to the virus.
