COVID-19: TN reports 5,528 fresh cases and 64 deaths in a day as the tally nears 5 lakh!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 5,528 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Thursday taking the state's total tally to 4,86,052 positive cases so far including active, recovered, and deceased patients. 

According to the official press release issued by the state health department, Tamil Nadu has tested 56,30,323 samples so far including 85,473 that were tested on Thursday of which 5,528 have returned positive. These 5,528 cases include the influx of six people who returned to the state from other regions - three came from Andhra Pradesh, two from Karnataka, and one from Bihar. 

Of these 5,528 cases, 3,377 are males and the rest 2,151 are female patients. The press release stated that 20 districts have reported heavy caseloads in the current reporting. Chennai has reported 991 fresh cases, 440 cases from Coimbatore, 300 cases from Salem, 296 cases from Thiruvallur, 279 cases from Chengalpattu, and 263 cases from Cuddalore. 

Villupuram has reported 189 cases, 173 cases belong to Kancheepuram, 155 cases from Tiruppur, 152 cases from Vellore, 130 cases each from Trichy and Nagapattinam, 127 cases belong to Thiruvarur, 124 cases belong to Dharmapuri, 123 cases each from Krishnagiri, Namakkal, and Tirunelveli, 118 cases belong to Ranipet, 113 cases from Kallakurichi, and 112 cases from Thoothukudi. 

The state has reported 6,185 fresh discharges taking the total tally of discharges to 4,29,416 so far. The state has also recorded 64 deaths through which the death toll currently stands at 8,154 so far. According to the press release, of these 64 deaths, 42 deaths were recorded at the government hospitals and the rest 22 were recorded at the private establishments. 

Of these 64 deaths, 11 belong to Chennai and 58 of these 64 deaths had been identified with the comorbidities. With the current reporting of 991 cases, Chennai has recorded 1,45,606 cases so far of which 1,31,840 cases have been discharged and 2,921 had died of the pandemic. 

As of Thursday - September 10, Tamil Nadu has reported 4,86,052 cases so far of which 48,482 are active, 4,29,416 have been discharged, and 8,154 had died of the viral infection.
