COVID-19: TN reports 3,882 fresh cases as the state may hit the tally of 1 lakh by this week!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 3,882 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Wednesday through which the state's tally has crossed 94,000 by reporting 94,049 cases so far including active, discharged, and recovered patients. 

Through the current reporting of 3,882 cases, the state has reported more than 3,500 cases for the seventh consecutive day amid the containment measures and lockdown and Chennai accounts for a major share in the state's tally while some of the districts have also been reporting the sharpest rise in the cases According to the official press release issued by the state health department, Tamil Nadu has tested 12,02, 204 sample so far including 31,521 that were tested on Wednesday. 

 

Of these, 3,882 returned positive for the pandemic taking the state's tally to a new high, which, at the current state, would touch 1,00,000 within this week. These 3,882 cases include 75 people who returned to Tamil Nadu from other regions. Of these 3,882 cases, 2,342 are males and 1,539 are female patients and eight districts have accounted for heavy caseloads in the current reporting. 

According to the press release, 2,182 cases belong to Chennai, 297 cases belong to Madurai, 226 cases belong to Chengalpattu, 178 cases belong to Salem, 147 belong to Thiruvallur, 111 cases from Ramanathapuram, 86 belong to Kancheepuram, and 76 belong to Vellore. Madurai has been emerging as a COVID-19 hotspot, leaving the government to impose complete lockdown in the district till July 5. 

The state has reported 2,852 fresh discharges taking the tally of the total number of discharges to 52,926 so far and the state has also recorded 63 fresh deaths taking the death toll to 1,264 - fourth highest in India after Maharashtra, Delhi, and Gujarat. According to the press release, 37 deaths were reported from the government hospitals while the rest 26 were reported from the private establishments. Of these 63 deaths, 40 belong to Chennai and 55 out of 63 deceased had co-morbid conditions largely diabetes and hypertension, one of the major causes for COVID-19 deaths. 

The state has been reporting a steady rise in the death toll. On June 26, the state's death toll stood at 957 and in the span of five days, the state has added 307 deaths at an average of 60 deaths per day. Chennai has been accounting for two-thirds of the state's total tally and with the current reporting of 2,182 cases, the city has recorded 60, 533 cases so far.

As of Wednesday evening, the state has reported 94,049 positive cases so far of which 39,856 are active - including isolation, 52,926 have been discharged, and 1,264 had succumbed to the virus.
