The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 2,710 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Monday through which the state had breached the tally of 60,000 by reporting 62,087 cases so far in its territory including active, discharged, and deceased patients.
The current reporting of 2,710 fresh cases has been recorded as the highest single-day spike in the state since the outbreak surpassing the previous tally of 2,532 cases that were reported on Sunday. According to the official press release issued by the state health department, Tamil Nadu has tested 9,19,204 samples -highest in the country, including 26,592 that were tested on Monday of which 2,710 confirmed to have contracted to the virus.

These 2,710 cases include 58 people who returned to the state from other regions (11 people came from Karnataka, ten from Delhi, nine each from Kerala and Maharashtra, four from Gujarat, three each from Singapore and Andhra Pradesh, two each from Nigeria, Jammu Kashmir, and Rajasthan and one each from Qatar, Uttar Pradesh, and Telangana).
Of these 2,710 cases, 1,487 cases belong to Chennai, 157 cases belong to Madurai, 139 belong to Thiruvannamalai, 126 belong to Chengalpattu, 120 belong to Thiruvallur, 63 belong to Cuddalore, 62 belong to Thoothukudi, 56 belong to Kancheepuram, 52 belong to Ranipet, 51 from Trichy, 41 belong to Villupuram, 36 each from Thanjavur and Theni, 33 from Sivagangai, 26 from Thirupathur, 23 from Salem, 20 from Tenkasi, 18 from Ramanathapuram, and 17 from Nagapattinam.
16 belong to Pudukottai, 14 from Kallakurichi, 13 each from Vellore and Thiruvarur, 12 each from Coimbatore and Ariyalur, ten belong to Kanyakumari, nine belong to Krishnagiri, seven belong to Dindigul, five each from Virudhunagar and Tirunelveli, four from Karur, two each from Dharmapuri, Erode, Nilgiris, and Tiruppur, and one each from Namakkal and Perambalur.
The state has reported 1,358 fresh discharges taking the total number of discharges to 34,112 so far and the state has also recorded 37 deaths through which the state's death toll stands at 794. According to the press release, of these 37 deaths, 35 had identified with co-morbid conditions and of these 37, 23 deaths were from Chennai, four each from Chengalpattu and Thiruvallur, two each from Kancheepuram and Villupuram, one each from Kallakurichi and Thoothukudi.
Tamil Nadu is the fourth Indian state to have the most number of COVID-19 deaths. By this time on June 17, the state's death toll was at 576 and in five days, the state has added about two hundred deaths as the death rate in the state has been unprecedently soaring. Amid the complete lockdown and restrictions, the cases have been peaking in Chennai and with the current reporting of 1,487 fresh cases, the city has recorded 42,752 cases so far.
As of Monday evening, the state has reported 62,087 positive cases so far of which 27,178 are active - including isolation, 34,112 have been discharged, and 794 had succumbed to the virus. At the current state, of 27,178 active cases in the state, Chennai and its three neighboring districts account for 21,998 active cases. According to the Union Health Ministry, Tamil Nadu is the second Indian state to have the most number of COVID-19 cases after Maharashtra which has reported 1,32,075 cases so far.
