COVID-19: TN reports 2,100 deaths for the past 18 days with the sharpest spikes in cases!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 5,986 fresh cases that were tested for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Thursday taking the state's total tally to 3,61,435 positive cases so far in its territory including active, recovered, and deceased patients. 

According to the official press release issued by the state health department, Tamil Nadu has tested 39,88,599 samples so far including 75,076 that were tested on Thursday of which 5,986 had confirmed to have contracted to the viral infection. 

These 5,986 cases include the influx of 19 people who returned to the state from various regions including the rest of India and abroad. Of these 5,986 cases, 3,629 are males and the rest 2,357 are female patients. 

 

The press release stated that 19 districts have accounted for heavy caseloads in the current reporting. Chennai has reported 1,177 cases, 462 cases belong to Chengalpattu, 397 cases from Coimbatore, 393 cases belong to Thiruvallur, 359 cases from Salem, 291 cases belong to Kancheepuram, 270 cases from Cuddalore, and 233 cases belong to Theni. 

Tirunelveli has reported 176 cases, 147 cases from Virudhunagar, 145 cases from Ranipet, 134 cases from Dindigul, 132 cases belong to Tenkasi, 128 cases from Trichy, 124 cases belong to Vellore, 123 cases from Kanyakumari, 117 cases belong to Thanjavur, 109 and 102 cases from Thiruvannamalai and Pudukottai respectively. The state has reported 5,742 fresh discharges taking the total tally of discharges to 3,01,913 so far. 

The state has also recorded 116 fresh deaths through which the death toll currently stands at 6,239 so far with the sharpest spikes for the last two weeks. According to the press release, of these 116 deaths, 72 deaths were recorded at the government hospitals, and 44 deaths were recorded at the private establishments. Of these 116 deaths, 22 deaths belong to Chennai while most of the districts have kept their contributions behind the current death toll. 108 deaths of 116 had been identified with comorbidities, largely including diabetes and hypertension. 

According to the state health department, through the current reporting of 116 deaths, Tamil Nadu has reported over a hundred single-day deaths for the eighteenth consecutive day, and for the past eighteen days, including Thursday, the state has reported 2,107 deaths with the major contribution from Chennai and active contribution from the rest of the districts. 

Chennai has recorded yet another spike by reporting more than a thousand cases and with the current reporting of 1,175 cases, Chennai has recorded 1,21,450 cases so far of which 1,06,626 have been discharged while 2,537 had died of the viral infection. At the current state, 13 districts in Tamil Nadu had reported over a hundred deaths each since the outbreak. As of Thursday - August 20, Tamil Nadu has reported 3,61,435 cases so far of which 53,283 are active, 3,01,913 have been discharged, and 6,239 had succumbed to the viral infection.
