The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 1,562 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Monday through which the state's tally has crossed 33,000 by reporting 33,229 cases so far in its territory including the active, recovered, and deceased patients.
The current reporting of 1,562 cases has become the highest-single day spike in the state since the outbreak, by surpassing the previous tally of 1,515 cases that were reported on Sunday. The state has crossed 1,500 cases for the second consecutive day and each day's tally has been transcending to the previous ones for the past few days with the sharpest rise in the cases.

According to the state health department, Tamil Nadu has tested 6,07,952 samples so far including 14,982 that were tested on Monday of which 1,562 returned positive. These 1,562 cases include 42 people who returned to the state from other regions (22 came from Maharashtra, nine from Qatar, six from Delhi, three from Kuwait, and one each from Delhi and Haryana.
Of these 1,562 cases, 941 are males and 621 are female patients and 1,149 cases belong to Chennai. The state has reported 528 fresh discharges taking the total number of discharges to 17,527, which are more than the active cases. The state has also reported 17 fatalities and in the span of five days, the state has added about 80 deaths to its count.
With the current deaths of 17, the death toll stands at 286. According to the press release, of these 17, 14 died at government hospitals while the rest three died at the private hospitals. 12 deceased belong to Chennai and of these 17, 14 had reported with co-morbid conditions, which is one of the larger factors of the deaths caused by the infection.
With the current reporting of 1,149 cases, Chennai has recorded 23,298 cases so far which are two-thirds of the total cases reported in the state. The city's graph has been on the upward direction amid the containment strategies, raising a huge concern for the state government to flatten the curve of COVID-19 affected cases.
As of Monday evening, the state has reported 33,229 positive cases so far -second highest in India after Maharashtra, of which 15,413 are active - including isolation, 17,527 have been discharged, and 286 had succumbed to the virus.
