The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 1,091 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Tuesday through which the total tally of the state has crossed 24,000 by reporting 24,586 cases so far including the active, recovered, and deceased patients. The back to back biggest spikes in the cases have been attributing the prevalence of the rapid spread of the pandemic in the state.
For the past three straight days, the state has recorded a thousand cases each day keeping the graph in the upward direction amid the containment strategies rolled by the government. According to the official press release by the state health department concerning the latest developments of the outbreak, Tamil Nadu has tested 5,14,433 samples so far including 11,094 that were tested on Tuesday of which 1,091 samples confirmed to have contracted to the virus.

These 1,091 cases include 55 people who returned to the state from other regions (40 came from Maharashtra, eight from Karnataka, three from Andhra Pradesh, and two each from Kerala and Delhi). The influx from Maharashtra has been reporting more positive cases compared to the rest of the influxes from other regions. Of these 1,091 cases, 644 are males while the rest 447 are female patients.
As far as the district-wise abstract is concerned, 809 belong to Chennai, 82 belong to Chengalpattu, 51 belong to Thoothukudi, 43 belong to Thiruvallur, 15 belong to Kancheepuram, 14 belong to Thiruvannamalai, 12 belong to Tirunelveli, nine belong to Salem, seven each from Kanyakumari and Trichy, five from Theni, four each from Kallakurichi and Thirupathur, three each from Virudhunagar, Thanjavur, and Nagapattinam.
Two each from Dindigul, Erode, Tenkasi, and Thiruvarur and one each from Cuddalore, Madurai, Perambalur, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai, and Villupuram. Apart from these, two people have been kept under the airport quarantine while three are under the railway quarantine. The state has reported 536 fresh discharges on Tuesday taking the total number of discharges to 13,706. With the current count, the state has more discharges than active cases.
The state also has recorded 13 fatalities through which the death toll stands at 197. Of these 13, 12 belong to Chennai while the rest one was reported in Chengalpattu. Most of the deceased are above 60 years with co-morbid conditions. Chennai has been adding more cases to its count. With the current reporting of 809 cases, the city's tally stands at 16,585 cases so far with 150 deaths and the city has majorly contributed to the spike in numbers in the state.
As of Tuesday evening, the state has reported 24,586 positive cases so far -second highest in India after Maharashtra of which 10,680 are active - including isolation, 13,706 have been discharged, and 197 had succumbed to the virus. The state has been going through the fifth phase of the lockdown which will be in place till June 30 with restrictions in the containment zones to curb the COVID-19 spread.
