COVID-19: TN has crossed 19,000 with the highest single-day rise in the death toll!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 827 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Thursday through which the state has crossed the tally of 19,000 cases by reporting 19,372 so far in its territory including active, recovered, and deceased patients.

The current reporting of positive cases has been recorded as one of the highest single-day rises as the state's graph has been in the upward direction amid the containment strategies. According to the official press release issued by the state health department, Tamil Nadu has tested 4,55,216 so far including 12,246 that were tested on Thursday of which 827 have been confirmed to have contracted to the virus.

These 827 cases include 117 people who returned to Tamil Nadu from other regions (74 returned from Maharashtra, 21 came from Karnataka, eight from Punjab, two each from Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, and Odisha and one each from Delhi, Kerala, Telangana, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, and Gujarat). 

 

Of these 827 people, 494 are males while the rest 333 are female patients and 559 belong to Chennai, 45 belong to Chengalpattu, 40 belong to Thiruvannamalai, 39 belong to Salem, 38 belong to Thiruvallur, 29 belong to Tirunelveli, 20 belong to Kancheepuram, eight belong to Madurai, four each from Cuddalore, Dindigul, and Thoothukudi, three each from Kallakurichi, Villupuram, and Virudhunagar.

Two each from Nagapattinam and Vellore and one each from Krishnagiri, Pudukottai, Ranipet, and Thanjavur. Apart from the district-wise abstract, 16 are going through the railway quarantine and four are under the airport quarantine. The state has reported 639 fresh discharges through which the state has crossed the tally of 10,000 discharges by reporting 10,548 so far and the state currently has more discharges than the active COVID-19 cases.

According to the press release, the state has recorded 12 fresh fatalities- the highest single-day rise in the number of deaths, and the death toll currently stands at 145. Out of these 12, eleven deceased belong to Chennai while the rest one was from Thiruvannamalai and ten deceased had been identified with the co-morbid conditions like Asthma, Diabetes, and Hypertension and most deceased are about 60 years.

For the past five days, the state has recorded about 40 deaths. On May 20, the state has crossed 13,000 cases and in the span of eight days, the state has added 6000 cases to its count with the sharpest rise in Chennai. With the current reporting of 559 cases, the city has recorded 12,762 so far and it also has recorded 106 fatalities which are more than 75% of the total numbers of cases and deaths reported by the state. 

As of Thursday evening, the state has reported 19,372 positive cases so far of which 8,676 are active - including isolation, 10,548 have been discharged, and 145 had succumbed to the virus. Tamil Nadu is the second Indian state with the most number of cases after Maharashtra, which has reported 56,948 cases so far, according to the health ministry. The health expert committee has warned the Tamil Nadu government to carry out more and aggressive testing failing which Chennai would see 2 lakh cases by June end with at least 1,400 deaths.
