The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 805 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Monday through which the state's tally has crossed 17,000 by reporting 17,082 cases so far in its territory including active, discharged, and deceased patients.
The current reporting has been one of the highest single-day rises recorded in the state exemplifying the sharpest spikes in the cases amid the restrictions and containment strategies. The state has been adding at least a thousand cases every two days to its count with more cases from Chennai. According to the press release issued by the state health department, Tamil Nadu has tested 4,21,450 samples so far including 11,835 samples that were tested on Monday.

Of these 11,835 samples, 805 returned positive for the virus and the current reporting includes 93 people who came to the state from other regions ( 87 from Maharashtra, three from Gujarat, two from Kerala, and one from Andhra Pradesh). Of the 805 cases, 491 are males and the rest 314 are female patients, and 549 belong to Chennai, 54 belong to Chengalpattu.
41 belong to Thiruvannamalai, 37 belong to Thiruvallur, 19 belong to Kancheepuram, 17 each from Virudhunagar and Thoothukudi, 15 from Tirunelveli, ten from Kallakurichi, six belong to Salem, five belong to Ramanathapuram, four belong to Ranipet, three belong to Kanyakumari, two from Theni, one each from Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, and Trichy.
Apart from the district abstract, five have been kept under quarantine in the airport while 16 have been going through the railway quarantine. The state has reported 407 fresh discharges taking the total number of discharges to 8,731. Amid the sharpest rise in the number of cases, the state has recorded more discharges than the active cases, which would be a huge relief to the state.
The state has recorded seven fresh fatalities through which the death toll currently stands at 118. According to the press release, of these seven, six deceased belong to Chennai and one belongs to Chengalpattu and all of them had succumbed to the virus in Chennai, and six had been identified to have co-morbid conditions. Tamil Nadu is the eighth Indian state to report more than a hundred COVID-19 deaths, according to the Union Health Ministry.
Chennai's tally has crossed 11,000 and with the current reporting of 549 cases, the city has recorded 11,131 cases so far which is nearly about two-thirds of the total affected cases in the state.
As of Monday evening, the state has reported 17,082 positive cases so far of which 8,230 are active - including isolation, 8,731 have been discharged, and 118 had succumbed to the virus. The state has recorded 15 fatalities in the last two days. According to the Health Ministry, Tamil Nadu is the second Indian state with the most number of cases after Maharashtra, which has reported 50,231 so far.
