The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 477 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Saturday taking the total number of affected cases to 10,585 so far in its territory including the active, recovered, and deceased patients.
For the first time since the outbreak, the state has reported the highest single-day rise in the discharges as it has recorded 939 fresh discharges on Saturday that surpassed the previous highest single-day rise of 359 discharges that recorded on Friday. After consistently reporting more than 500 cases for the past few days, the state has been witnessing less than 500 cases for the third consecutive day with a steady increase in the number of discharges.
According to the official press release issued by the state health department, Tamil Nadu has tested 3,13, 639 samples so far including 10,535 that were tested on Saturday of which 477 samples returned positive for the virus. The current reporting of 477 cases includes 93 people who returned to the state from other regions ( four returned from Dhaka, Bangladesh, 81 came from Maharashtra, 7 came from Gujarat while one came from Andhra Pradesh).

The press release stated that of these 477 cases, 303 are male patients, 174 are females and 332 belong to Chennai, 44 belong to Tirunelveli, 17 belong to Kallakurichi, 13 belong to Chengalpattu, ten belong to Thiruvallur, nine belong to Sivagangai, eight belong to Thoothukudi, seven each from Thiruvannamalai and Dindigul, five belong to Tenkasi, four each from Kancheepuram, Madurai, and Airport Quarantine - Dhaka returnees,
Three belong to Ranipet, two each from Kanyakumari, Nagapattinam, and Villupuram, one each from Vellore, Theni, and Virudhunagar. The state has reported 939 fresh discharges- highest since the outbreak through which the total number of discharges currently stands at 3,538 and the state has also recorded three fresh fatalities taking the death toll to 74 so far.
According to the press release, a 65-year-old female and a 55-year-old male had died due to the virus in a private hospital in Chennai and a 78-year-old male had succumbed to the virus in Omandurar Medical College Hospital in the city and all three fatalities had died due to Pneumonia and respiratory failure, both are caused by COVID-19.
Chennai has crossed 6000 cases after recording the sharpest rises since the beginning of May. With the current reporting of 332 cases, the city has recorded 6,271 so far amid the lockdown and restrictions. The press release revealed that the state has increased the COVID-19 testing facilities. It currently has 61 facilities of which 39 belong to the government while the rest 22 belong to private.
Recently, the medical expert team had advised the Chief Minister to increase the testing for COVID-19 to formulate the containment strategies. As of Saturday evening, the state has reported 10,585 positive cases so far of which 6,970 are active, 3,538 have been discharged, and 74 had succumbed to the virus.
