COVID-19: Tamil Nadu reports 776 fresh cases as the state nears to hit 14,000!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 776 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Thursday taking the total number of affected cases to 13,967 in its territory so far including the active, discharged, and deceased patients. 

The state has been adding the tally of thousand cases in the span of two days amid the restrictions. According to the official press release issued by the state department, the state has tested 3,72,532 samples so far including 12,464 that were tested on Thursday of which 776 samples confirmed to have contracted to the virus. 

These 776 patients include 87 people who returned to the state from various regions (76 from Maharashtra, six from Chicago, one each from Muscat, Maldives, Kerala, Delhi, and West Bengal). Of these 776, 479 are males and the rest 297 are female patients, and 567 belong to Chennai, 42 belong to Thiruvallur, 34 from Chengalpattu, 22 from Thoothukudi. 

 

19 belong to Madurai, 13 belong to Kancheepuram, 11 from Tirunelveli, eight each from Kallakurichi, Tenkasi, and Virudhunagar, five each from Tiruvannamalai and Dindigul, four each from Thanjavur, Theni, Ranipet, and Villupuram, three belong to Pudukottai, two from Sivagangai, and one each from Cuddalore, Karur, Thirupathur, and Vellore. Apart from these, seven people are kept under the airport quarantine and two under the railway quarantine. 

The state has reported 400 fresh discharges on Thursday taking the total number of discharges to 6,282 and the state has also recorded seven fatalities through which the death toll currently stands at 94 and all these seven fatalities belong to Chennai and they have died at the various hospital in the city due to the pandemic.

By reporting 567 fresh cases on Thursday, Chennai has recorded 8,795 cases so far including the active, discharged, and deceased patients. According to the press release, of these 8795 cases, 5681 are active cases, 3048 have been discharged, and 65 had passed away so far. Of the total affected cases in the state, nearly 50% of them have been discharged and the state has been recording an average of three deaths for the past few days. 

As of Thursday evening, the state has reported 13,967 positive cases so far of which 7,588 are active - including isolation, 6,282 have been discharged, and 94 had succumbed to the virus. On Monday, Health Minister Vijayabaskar has stated that the Maharashtra cluster has been emerging in the state as most of the people who returned from Maharashtra have tested positive for the pandemic.
