The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 526 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Saturday putting the total number of affected cases to 6,535 so far in its territory including the active, discharged, and deceased patients. The state has also reported four fresh fatalities through which the death toll currently stands at 44.
About 70% of the total affected cases in the state had reported in a fortnight amid the measures taken by the government to flatten the curve of COVID-19 affected cases. According to the official press release issued by the state health department, Tamil Nadu has tested 2,29,670 samples so far including 13,254 that were tested on Saturday.

Saturday's testings had confirmed that 526 people have been contracted to the virus and the current reporting has taken the total number of affected cases to 6,535 and of these 526, 360 are males while the rest 166 are female patients.
The press release has put out the district-wise data of the current reporting and 279 belong to Chennai alone while 67 belong to Villupuram. 40 belong to Chengalpattu, 31 belong to Perambalur, 26 belong to Thiruvallur, 17 belong to Kancheepuram, 16 belong to Ariyalur, 15 belong to Tiruvannamalai, 10 belong to Ranipet, eight belong to Tirunelveli, four belong to Thirupathur, three belong to Cuddalore, two each from Ramanathapuram and Theni, and one each from Dindigul, Kallakurichi, Namakkal, Nilgiris, Thanjavur, and Trichy.
Of 526 cases, 18 are under the age of 10 including a 5 days old child who has got infected by the virus in Chennai. The state has reported 219 recoveries- the highest single-day recovery in the state since the outbreak. The total number of discharges currently stands at 1,824 and the state has also recorded four fresh fatalities through which the death toll stands at 44. Three female patients aged 67, 58, and 73 respectively had passed away due to the infection while a 70-year-old female had succumbed to the virus in Sivagangai Medical College.
According to the press release, the Koyambedu cluster has been responsible for most of the cases that were tested positive in the fortnight and the health department revealed that of the total number of affected cases in the state, 1,867 positive cases are linked to the Koyambedu cluster as the fresh epicenter has directly been impacting the districts like Ariyalur, Cuddalore, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Kancheepuram, Chennai, and Tiruvallur.
Chennai has been witnessing the rampant spread of the virus as the cases have been soaring high in the capital. With the current reporting of 279 cases, Chennai has recorded 3,330 cases so far in its territory since the outbreak which is the highest number in the state.
By this time on April 23, the state had reported 908 active cases and now it has reported 4,664 active cases. As of Saturday evening, the state has reported 6,535 positive cases so far of which 4,664 are active, 1,824 have been discharged, and 44 had succumbed to the virus.
