COVID-19: Tamil Nadu police book 8700 people for violating the curfew!

The Tamil Nadu Police department has been gripping up the security measures to deal with the defiers and people who violate the curfew under section 144 that was imposed as a part of the preventive measures to contain the spread of the Coronavirus in the state.

The state's law enforcement agency has been taking stern action against such people and according to the reports, the police had booked 8,795 people across the state so far for reportedly violating the curfew and prohibitory orders. The state has marked its fifth day of the complete lockdown on Sunday.

The reports stated that the police had registered 7,119 cases on Saturday alone against the curfew violators across the state and department has also seized 5,500 vehicles on Saturday and of these cases, Thiruvannamalai has topped the table with more number of cases filed as the district had seen the arrest of 903 people who violated the curfew and 772 vehicles were seized by the police on Saturday.

These arrests have come at a crucial time when the state government is enhancing the measures to combat the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), which is the human to human transmitting virus and has been labeled as a global pandemic. The government has imposed a curfew under section 144 last Tuesday and brought the state under complete lockdown and appealed to the people to stay at home, maintain social distancing, and refrain from unnecessary travels.

However, the state has been reported with some of the incidents of violating the curfew and with the view of containing the violations, the police department has been initiating stringent actions against the defiers. Along with the violators, the Chennai police had booked six persons for breaking the home quarantine rules and guidelines issued by the state government.

By bringing the state under lockdown, the state government has permitted the movements of essential and emergency services and the Chennai city police have installed a control room in the Commissioner's office to issue the vehicle passes for the people who are exiting the city due to the emergency. The people can reach the control room through WhatsApp or call or mail if they are ought to travel within or outside the city due to medical emergencies, wedding, or death and the police department would issue the vehicle passes if the applicant discloses the valid proofs.
