Amid the restrictions and containment strategies, a sitting ADMK MLA has now tested positive for COVID-19 through which he has become the first legislator in the ruling party and second one in the state to get contracted to the virus, after DMK's J Anbazhagan.
According to the reports confirming the developments, ADMK MLA Palani (57) who is the sitting legislative assembly member of Sriperumbudur constituency has tested positive for the global pandemic and he has been getting treated at MIOT Hospitals in Nandambakkam, Chennai.
The ruling party's legislator has approached the hospital on Friday after he developed a fever following which his samples were collected for COVID-19 testing. The samples returned positive on Saturday, confirming that the legislator has been contracted to the virus.
The hospital said the legislator is doing stable and has been monitored under the isolation ward. The reports stated that Palani has become the second legislator in the state within a fortnight to test positive. Earlier, on June 2nd, DMK's legislator and one of the senior leaders J Anbazhagan was the first MLA to turn out to be positive for the virus.
The reports further stated that Palani could have contracted to the virus while providing the relief materials to the vulnerable people in his Sriperumbudur constituency, which comes under the Kancheepuram district, which is one of the worst affected districts in Tamil Nadu. Palani has also been serving as one of the party's secretaries of the district and he has been getting treated for diabetes, which is his comorbidity.
