COVID-19: Rashtrapati Bhavan reports the first case amid the lockdown!

India's Presidential Palace, Rashtrapati Bhavan, has now come under the scanner as one of its employees has tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) amid the nationwide lockdown. According to the reports, the positive case is a woman and she is one of the sanitary workers in the palace.

Following the development, about 125 families living near the official residence of the Indian President have been instructed to remain under self-isolation and over a hundred employees attached with the palace have now been quarantined as the global pandemic hits the office of India's head of state. The families have been mandated to remain under isolation with accord to the guidelines issued by the Union Health Ministry to contain the spread.

 

The reports stated that the high-level officials with the secretary rank at the palace and their families have been asked to stay under home quarantine while the workers were isolated at the quarantine facility in Central Delhi. Apart from one employee, all others had tested negative. India has been going through the second spell of the nationwide lockdown that would be in place till May 3rd to curb the spread of the global pandemic.

Pouring a big relief to the fight against the virus, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has, on Monday, revealed that the total number of the infected cases have been doubling nationwide at a slower pace and nearly 59 districts haven't reported a single case for the past two weeks. However, some of the states with more hotspots hadn't provided any relaxations for the lockdown.

According to the official figures released by the Union Health Ministry, India has reported 18,601 positive cases for the virus so far as of Tuesday morning of which 3252 patients have been recovered while 590 have succumbed to the virus. The state of Maharashtra has reported the most number of cases in the country. India's richest state has 4,666 cases in its count followed by Delhi - 2081, Gujarat- 1939, Rajasthan - 1576, and Tamil Nadu - 1520 cases. In the past 24 hours, the country has reported 47 fatalities.
