In what has become back to back shocking developments, COVID-19 has got the grounds of spread in the current season of IPL as another player of the Chennai Super Kings has confirmed to have contracted the viral infection on Saturday, exactly a day after a player had spelled positive, becoming the first one in the team.
At the current state, 13 members of the 'Men in Yellow' fleet had tested positive for the disease of which two are players. Amid the development, the names of the players tested positive haven't revealed and it would likely defer the team in starting its training sessions in the UAE, which is hosting the current season of the Indian Premier League.
According to the IANS, the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) had issued a statement in which it has stated that 13 members of the team had spelled positive of which two are players and all the affected personnel and their close contacts are symptomatic and they have been isolated from other members of the team and they have been getting monitored by the IPL Medical team.
On Friday, one player of the Chennai Super Kings had tested positive for the viral infection and the reports said that he was a bowler and within a day, another player has tested positive. The IANS said that one more player has tested positive and his name is not known, leaving the other teams to get shocked and worried from the current developments amid precautionary measures. The BCCI had asserted that it has rolled out stringent health and safety protocols for the current season of the IPL.
The development has come hours after the Chennai Super Kings Chief Executive Officer said star player Suresh Raina won't be playing the current season as he returned to India due to personal reasons. His exit was announced on Saturday, which came as a shocker for the CSK fans, and hours after the development, the fans ought to witness another shocking news after the second player of the 'Men in Yellow' had spelled positive for the viral infection.
To mitigate the virus spread, the BCCI had mandated the players and support staff to adhere to the COVID-19 guidelines and protocols. As per the guidelines, the players had gone through the mandatory quarantine for six days after they arrived in the UAE and during their quarantine period, they must undergo three tests and they would be able to start the training sessions only after all the three tests return negative.
According to the reports, a total of 1,988 RT-PCR COVID-19 tests were carried out between August 20 and August 28 and it includes the players, support staff, IPL operational team, BCCI Staff, and other staff attached to the season. The IPL season will be commencing from September 19 and the UAE would be hosting the games in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah.
