COVID-19: With the highest spike of 79 deaths, TN's death toll soar with 47,782 active cases!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 4,538 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Friday which had taken the state's tally beyond 1.6 lakh by reporting 1,60,907 cases so far including the active, recovered, and deceased patients. 

The current reporting of 4,538 fresh cases has been recorded as one of the highest single-day rises since the outbreak with a major contribution from Chennai and active contribution from other districts across the state. According to the official press release issued by the Health Department, Tamil Nadu has tested 18,31,304 samples so far including 48,669 that were tested on Friday of which 4,538 returned positive for the viral infection.

 

These 4,538 cases include the influx of 75 people who returned to Tamil Nadu from other regions including Indian states and abroad. Of these 4,538, 2,755 are males while the rest 1,783 are female patients. The press release stated that 19 districts have accounted for the major caseload in the current reporting - 1,243 cases belong to Chennai, 263 cases from Madurai, 220 cases from Thiruvallur, 196 cases from Virudhunagar. 

Thoothukudi has reported 189 cases, Vellore has reported 183 cases, 175 cases belong to Theni, 163 cases belong to Dindigul, 151 cases belong to Kanyakumari, 145 cases belong to Tiruvannamalai, 141 cases belong to Coimbatore, 124 cases from Chengalpattu, 119 cases belong to Tirunelveli, 117 from Thanjavur, 113 cases belong to Villupuram, 110 cases belong to Kancheepuram, 100 cases belong to Trichy, 82 cases from Ramanathapuram, and 81 cases from Sivagangai.

The state has reported 3,391 fresh discharges taking the total tally of discharges to 1,10,807 so far which is more than double the amount of the active COVID-19 cases in the state. The state has also reported 79 deaths- the highest single-day rise in the deaths since the outbreak, which had taken the death toll to 2,315.

According to the press release, of these 79 deaths, 56 were reported from the government hospitals while the rest 23 were reported from the private establishments. Of these 79 deaths, 36 belong to Chennai, eight from Chengalpattu, five each from Coimbatore and Thiruvallur, four each from Madurai, Ramanathapuram, Thiruvannamalai, three each from Trichy and Vellore, and one each from Kancheepuram, Ranipet, Theni, Tirupathur, Thoothukudi, and Villupuram. 

78 deceased out of 79 had reported with co-morbid conditions which have been one of the largest causes of death claimed by COVID-19. With the current reporting of 1,243 cases, Chennai has recorded 83,377 cases so far whereas southern districts like Madurai, Thoothukudi, Theni, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Ramanathapuram, and Virudhunagar have been reporting soaring cases. 

As of Friday, Tamil Nadu has reported 1,60,907 cases so far of which 47,782 are active, 1,10,807 have been recovered, and 2,315 had succumbed to the virus. Tamil Nadu has reported a biggest spike of cases when India has crossed the tally of 1 million COVID-19 cases. India has attained the never-wished feat on Friday and according to the Union Health Ministry, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu are the two Indian states that contribute about 48% of the country's total active caseload and ten states account for 85% of the total active caseload.
