The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 5,860 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Saturday which had taken the state's tally to 3,32,105 positive cases so far in its territory including active, recovered, and deceased patients.
According to the official press release issued by the state health department, Tamil Nadu has tested 36,40,796 samples so far including 71,343 that were tested on Saturday of which 5,860 returned positive for the viral infection. These 5,860 cases include the influx of 30 people who returned to the state from other regions. Of these 5,860 cases, 3,509 are males and the rest 2,351 are female patients.

The press release stated that 17 districts of the state had accounted for heavy caseloads in the current reporting. Chennai has reported 1,179 cases, Thiruvallur has reported 422 cases, 376 cases belong to Chengalpattu, 340 cases belong to Cuddalore, 290 cases from Coimbatore, 260 cases from Ranipet, 213 cases from Theni, 200 cases belong to Salem, 184 cases belong to Kancheepuram, 182 cases from Kanyakumari, and Pudukottai has reported 170 cases.
Tirunelveli has reported 169 cases, Virudhunagar has reported 167 cases, 153 cases from Vellore, 118 cases from Dindigul, 117 and 109 cases from Trichy and Thanjavur respectively. The state has reported 5,236 fresh discharges which had taken the tally of total discharges to 2,72,251 so far.
The state has recorded 127 fresh deaths- the highest single-day rise since the outbreak through which the death toll currently stands at 5,641. According to the press release, of these 127 deaths, 83 deaths were recorded at the government hospitals, and the rest 44 were recorded at the private establishments. Of these 127 deaths, 26 belong to Chennai and 115 of total 127 deaths had identified with co-morbid conditions.
According to the state health department, through the current reporting of 127 deaths, Tamil Nadu has reported over a hundred single-day deaths for the thirteenth consecutive day. For the past thirteen days, including Saturday, the state has reported 1,509 deaths, taking the death toll to a new high and Tamil Nadu is the second state in India with the most number of COVID-19 deaths after Maharashtra.
The state has been reporting interminable spikes in the death toll for the last two weeks which has become a major concern for the government and the frontline workers in curbing the rise of the fatality rate amid containing the spread. Chennai has recorded a spike in fresh cases and with the current reporting of 1,179 fresh cases, the city has recorded 1,15,444 cases so far of which 1,01,689 have been discharged and 2,434 had died of the viral infection.
As of Saturday - August 15, Tamil Nadu has reported 3,32,105 cases so far of which 54,213 are active, 2,72,251 have been recovered, and 5,641 had succumbed to the virus.
