COVID-19: For the first time, TN reports over 100 deaths in a day as the toll crossed 4,200!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 5,609 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Monday taking the state's total tally beyond 2.60 lakh by reported 2,63,222 cases so far including active, recovered, and deceased patients. 

According to the official press release issued by the state health department, Tamil Nadu has tested 28,37,273 samples so far including 58,211 that were tested on Monday of which 5,609 returned positive for the viral infection. These 5,609 cases include the influx of 32 people who returned to the state from other regions including the rest of Indian states and abroad. 

 

Of these 5,609 cases, 3,295 are males and the rest 2,314 are female patients. The press release stated that 16 districts in the state had accounted for major cases in the current reporting. Chennai has reported 1,021 cases, 382 cases belong to Ranipet - the highest spike in the district since the outbreak, 348 cases from Virudhunagar, 332 cases belong to Thiruvallur, 331 cases from Chengalpattu, 322 cases from Kancheepuram, 305 cases from Theni. 

Coimbatore has reported 227 cases, 215 cases each from Kanyakumari and Thoothukudi, 212 cases belong to Thiruvannamalai, 167 cases from Cuddalore, 146 cases belong to Thanjavur, 134 cases belong to Vellore, 106 and 101 cases from Madurai and Trichy respectively. The state has reported 5,800 fresh discharges through which the state's total tally of discharges currently stands at 2,02,283 - three times higher than the active COVID-19 cases in the state. 

The state has reported 109 fresh deaths taking the death toll to 4,241 so far. For the first time since the outbreak, the state's single-day death toll crossed 100 which had also become the highest single-day rise by surpassing the previous tally of 99 deaths. According to the press release, of these 109 deaths, 86 were recorded at the government hospitals and the rest 23 were recorded at the private establishments. 

Of these 109 deaths, Chennai has reported 20 deaths, Virudhunagar has reported nine deaths, Coimbatore has reported seven deaths, five deaths each from Kancheepuram, Sivagangai, Tenkasi, Theni, and Tirunelveli. 

Four deaths each from Chengalpattu, Madurai, Pudukottai, Ranipet, Thiruvallur, Thiruvannamalai, and Thoothukudi. Three deaths each from Kanyakumari and Salem, two deaths each from Perambalur, Ramanathapuram, and Thanjavur, and one death each from Dindigul, Erode, Karur, Nagapattinam, Thirupathur, Tiruppur, Vellore, and Villupuram. 

102 deaths out of 109 were identified with the co-morbid conditions. The death toll in Tamil Nadu has been soaring unprecedently for the past few days with the major contribution from Chennai and active contribution from the rest of the districts.  On July 3, Tamil Nadu's COVID-19 death toll stood at 1,385 and in a month, on August 3, the state's death toll stands at 4,241 as in the span of one month, the state has added 2,856 more deaths to its toll. 

With the current reporting of 1,021 cases, Chennai has recorded 1,02,985 cases so far of which 88,826 have been discharged while 2,176 had died of the viral infection. As of Monday, Tamil Nadu has reported 2,63,222 cases so far of which 56,698 are active, 2,02,283 have been recovered, and 4,241 had succumbed to the virus.
