COVID-19: For the first time, TN reports 4,000 cases in a day as the tally nears 1 lakh!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 4,343 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Thursday which had taken the state's tally beyond 98,000 by reporting 98,392 cases so far including active, recovered, and deceased patients. 

For the first time since the outbreak of the pandemic, Tamil Nadu has reported more than 4,000 cases which have been recorded as the state's highest single-day rise by surpassing the previous tally of 3,949 cases that were recorded on June 29. According to the official press release issued by the state health department, Tamil Nadu has tested 12,35,692 samples so far including 33,488 that were tested on Thursday of which 4,343 returned positive for the virus. 

 

These 4,343 cases include 73 people who returned to Tamil Nadu from other regions. The current reporting includes 2,551 males and 1,792 female patients and 12 districts of the state had accounted for a major share in the unprecedented rise of cases. According to the press release, 2,027 cases belong to Chennai, 273 belong to Madurai, 171 belong to Chengalpattu, 167 belong to Thiruvannamalai.

164 cases belong to Thiruvallur, 137 belong to Vellore, 133 belong to Kallakurichi, 127 belong to Ranipet, 112 cases belong to Kancheepuram, 108 belong to Ramanathapuram, 88 belong to Salem, and 76 belong to Virdhunagar. Along with the biggest spike, the state has also reported more than 2,300 cases outside Chennai for the first time since the outbreak as it has exemplified that most of the districts, that were earlier remained as non-hotspot, have now reported cases with four digits amid the lockdown.

The state has reported 3,095 fresh discharges - the highest single-day rise in the discharges taking the total tally of discharges to 56,021 so far. The state has also recorded 57 fresh deaths which had taken the death toll to 1,321 so far. According to the press release, 37 deaths were recorded at the government hospitals while the rest 20 were recorded at the private establishments. 

Of these 57 deaths, 35 deaths belong to Chennai and out of 57 deaths, 45 had reported with co-morbid conditions. For the past few days, the state has been witnessing the sharpest spikes in the death toll recorded outside Chennai along with positive cases. On June 29, the state's death toll stood at 1,141 and in the span of three days, the state has added 180 more deaths to its tally. 

With the current reporting of 2,027 cases, Chennai has recorded 62,598 cases so far and the city's current reporting has become the biggest single-day rise since the outbreak amid the lockdown and restrictions and the state is going to hit the tally of 1,00,000- second highest in India after Maharashtra.

As of Thursday evening, the state has reported 98,392 positive cases so far of which 41,047 are active - including isolation, 56,021 have been discharged, and 1,321 had succumbed to the virus.
