COVID-19: For the first time, TN has reported 5000 cases of which 4,600 are outside Chennai!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 5,849 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Wednesday through which the state's tally had gone beyond 1.86 lakh by reporting 1,86,492  cases so far including active, recovered, and deceased cases. 

For the first time since the outbreak, Tamil Nadu has reported more than 5000 cases in a single day which had been recorded as the highest single-day rise. According to the official press release issued by the state health department, Tamil Nadu has tested 20,95,757 samples so far including 60,112 that were tested on Wednesday of which 5,849 returned positive for the pandemic. 

 

These 5,849 cases include the influx of 74 people who returned to the state from other regions. Of these 5,849, 3,481 are males and the rest 2,368 are female patients. According to the press release, 1,171 cases belong to Chennai and the remaining 4,673 cases were recorded outside Chennai as the districts excluding Chennai had contributed about 75% of cases in the current reporting.

The state has reported 4,910 fresh discharges taking the total tally of discharges to 1,31,583 so far- about three times higher than the active COVID-19 cases. The state has recorded 74 fresh deaths and the health department has added 444 COVID-19 deaths that were missed out earlier in today's tally through which the death toll has crossed 3,100 and stands at 3,144 so far.

With the current reporting of 1,171 cases, Chennai has recorded 89,561 cases so far while the cases in the districts like Thiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Theni, Ramanathapuram, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Coimbatore, Villupuram, and Vellore have been soaring high and have been paving an active contribution in the rise of the state's tally.

As of Wednesday, Tamil Nadu has reported 1,86,492 cases so far of which 51,765 are active, 1,31,583 have been recovered, and 3,144 had succumbed to the virus.
