COVID-19: Chennai reports the highest spike with 2,393 cases as TN's tally crossed 90,000!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 3,943 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Tuesday which had taken the state's tally beyond 90,000 by reporting 90,167 cases so far including active, recovered, and deceased patients. 

The current reporting of 3,943 fresh cases has been recorded as one of the highest single-day rises in the state since the outbreak. According to the official press release issued by the state health department, Tamil Nadu has tested 11,70,683 samples so far including 30,242 that were tested on Tuesday of which 3,943    returned positive for the pandemic.

 

These 3,943 cases include 87 people who returned to Tamil Nadu from other regions and the current reporting includes 2,378 males and 1,565 female patients. The press release stated that eight districts of the state accounted for over 80% of the cases that were reported on Tuesday. 2,393 cases belong to Chennai, 246 belong to Madurai, 160 belong to Chengalpattu, 153 from Thiruvallur, 90 belong to Kancheepuram.

75 belong to Theni, 69 belong to Vellore, and 66 cases belong to Kallakurichi. The state has reported 2,325 fresh discharges through which the tally of total discharges stands at 50,074 so far - highest than the active COVID-19 cases in the state. The state has also recorded 60 deaths taking the death toll to 1,201. According to the press release, 44 deaths were reported from the government hospitals and the rest 16 were from the private establishments. 

Out of these 60 deaths, 57 had identified with co-morbid conditions and of these 60, 42 belong to Chennai as the city has been majorly contributing in the state's tally with the sharpest spikes of cases. Chennai has reported 2,393 cases on Tuesday, which has been recorded as the city's highest single-day rise since the outbreak and the city's total tally stands at 58,327 so far. 

As of Tuesday evening, the state has reported 90,167 positive cases so far of which 38,889 are active - including isolation, 50,074 have been discharged, and 1,201 had succumbed to the virus. 

On Monday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister has announced that the lockdown has been extended in the state from July 1st to July 31st owing to the rapid spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. Chennai, its three neighboring districts, and Madurai would be under complete lockdown till July 5 whereas all Sundays of July have been imposed with full shutdown across the state.
