The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 1,515 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Sunday through which the state's tally crossed 31,000 by reporting 31,667 cases so far in its territory including the active, recovered, and deceased patients.
The current reporting of 1,515 cases has been recorded as the highest single-day rise since the outbreak transcending the previous tally of 1,458 that was reported on Saturday. According to the official press release issued by the Tamil Nadu health department, the state has tested 5,92,970 samples so far including 16,275 that were tested on Sunday of which 1,515 returned positive for the pandemic.

These 1,515 cases include 18 people who returned to the state from other regions (seven from Delhi, four from UAE, three from Kuwait, two from Maharashtra, and one each from Jammu Kashmir and Andhra Pradesh. In this current reporting, 945 are males and the rest 570 are female patients.
Of these 1,515 cases, 1,156 belong to Chennai, 135 belong to Chengalpattu, 55 belong to Thiruvallur, 16 belong to Kancheepuram, 14 each from Madurai and Thoothukudi, 11 each from Dindigul and Villupuram, ten belong to Ranipet, nine each from Ramanathapuram and Vellore, eight belong to Kallakurichi, seven belong to Thanjavur, six each from Cuddalore, Thirupathur, Thiruvannamalai, five belong to Virudhunagar, and four belong to Trichy.
Three each from Coimbatore, Salem, Tenkasi, Theni, two each from Dharmapuri, Pudukottai, and Tirunelveli and one each from Ariyalur and Thiruvarur. Apart from these, 13 patients are kept under airport surveillance. The state has reported 604 fresh discharges taking the total number of discharges to 16,999 so far and it also has recorded 18 deaths through which the death toll currently stands at 269.
The state has been reporting the sharpest rise in the death toll. By this time on June 3rd, the state's death toll was at 208 and in the span of four days, the state has added 60 more deaths at an average of 15 deaths per day and most of the deaths were due to the comorbidities. According to the press release, of these 18 deaths, 15 belong to Chennai and the rest three belong to Vellore, Chengalpattu, and Thiruvallur respectively.
The press release stated that 15 deceased had co-morbid conditions and eleven deaths are above 60 years of age while the youngest was a 20-year-old female who belongs to Vellore. She had hypertension and died due to the infection at the Vellore Government Medical college and hospital.
Chennai has crossed the tally of 22,000 - which is about two-thirds of the state's tally. With the current reporting of 1,156 cases, the city has recorded 22,149 cases so far with 212 deaths amid the lockdown and containment strategies. As of Sunday evening, the state has reported 31,667 positive cases so far -second highest in India after Maharashtra, of which 14,396 are active - including isolation, 16,999 have been discharged, and 269 had succumbed to the virus. When the state took two weeks to reach 20,000 from 10,000 cases, it has just taken eight days to add 10,000 additional cases to its count.
