The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 3,680 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Friday taking the state's tally beyond 1.30 lakh by reporting 1,30,261 cases so far in its territory including active, recovered, and deceased patients.
The state health department has issued the press release in which it has put out the latest developments concerning the outbreak in the state. According to the press release, Tamil Nadu has tested 15,29,092 samples so far including 37,309 that were tested on Friday of which 3,680 confirmed to have contracted to the virus.

These 3,680 cases include the influx of 44 people who returned to the state from other regions. Of these 3,680 cases, 2,196 are males while the rest 1,484 are female patients. The press release stated that 15 districts accounted for a major share in the current reporting. 1,205 cases belong to Chennai, 242 cases belong to Chengalpattu, 219 cases belong to Thiruvallur.
195 cases belong to Thoothukudi, 192 cases belong to Madurai, 145 cases belong to Tirunelveli, 143 cases belong to Virudhunagar, 140 cases belong to Vellore, 127 cases from Salem, 109 cases belong to Trichy, 108 cases from Theni, 105 cases belong to Kanyakumari, 103 cases from Thiruvannamalai, 85 cases belong to Ramanathapuram, and 82 cases from Kallakurichi.
While the number of cases has been descending in Chennai as the city has been reporting fewer cases relatively to what it had reported last week, the cases have been surging in southern districts like Madurai, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, and Virudhungar as the never-witnessed spikes from these districts have emerged them as COVID-19 hotspots.
The state has reported 4,163 fresh discharges through which the tally of total discharge stands at 82,324 so far- higher than the active COVID-19 cases. The state has also recorded 64 deaths taking the death toll to 1,829. According to the press release, of these 64 deaths, 47 were recorded at the government hospitals while the rest 17 were reported in the private establishments.
Of these 64 deaths, 27 belong to Chennai whereas 57 of total 64 deaths had identified with co-morbid conditions. On June 30, the state's death toll was at 1,201 and in the span of ten days, the state has added 628 deaths to its count and comorbidities have been one of the major reasons behind COVID-19 deaths.
With the current reporting of 1,205 cases, Chennai has recorded 74,969 cases so for. Amid the complete lockdown, Madurai has been witnessing the sharpest spikes in the cases. On June 30, the southern district has reported 2,557 cases and in ten days, it has added 2,925 cases to its tally which currently stands at 5,482, and with the surge in cases, the other southern districts have been witnessing a steady increase in its tally.
As of Friday, Tamil Nadu has reported 1,30,261 cases so far of which 46,105 are active, 82,324 have been recovered, and 1,829 had succumbed to the virus.
