COVID-19: 359 new discharges in Tamil Nadu as it has crossed 10,000 cases!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 434 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Friday through which the state has crossed 10,000 cases by reporting 10,108 cases so far in its territory including the active, recovered, and deceased patients. The state has also recorded 359 fresh discharges, which has been recorded as the highest single-day rise in discharges since the outbreak.

The state has reported less than 500 cases for the second successive day witnessing the decline after recording the sharpest increases for the past few days. According to the official press release issued by the health department, the state had tested 3,03,104 samples so far including 11, 672 samples that were tested on Friday of which 434 confirmed positive for the virus.

The current reporting of 434 includes 49 people who returned from other regions. Of these 49, six returned to the state from the Maldives, 40 returned from Maharashtra, two came from Gujarat while one came from Karnataka. Of 434, 253 are males while the rest 181 are female patients. 

 

The press release stated that 310 belong to Chennai, 22 belong to Tirunelveli,  21 belong to Thiruvallur, 20 belong to Chengalpattu, 11 each from Kancheepuram and Madurai, 10 belong to Thoothukudi, six belong to Theni, four each from Thiruvannamalai and Kanyakumari, three belong to Cuddalore, two each from Dindigul, Perambalur, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, and Ranipet, one each from Pudukottai and Thanjavur. 

The state reported 359 fresh discharges - the highest since the outbreak and the total number of discharges currently stands at 2,599. The state has recorded five fatalities taking the death toll to 71. According to the press release, a 53-year-old female and 32-year-old male had died due to infection at the Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital in Chennai while a 57-year-old male and 61-year-old male had succumbed to the virus at Omandurar Medical College hospital and Stanely Hospital in the city. 

The day's fifth fatality is a 34-year-old male who died at Thoothukudi medical college and all five fatalities have died due to respiratory failure. While the state has crossed 10,000 cases, Chennai nears to hit 6000. With the current reporting of 310 cases, the city has recorded 5,946 cases so far which is the highest in the state with more than 50% of the contribution. 

As of Friday evening, the state has reported 10,108 positive cases so far of which 7,435 are active, 2,599 have been discharged, and 71 had succumbed to the virus. According to the Union Health Ministry, Tamil Nadu has become the second Indian state to report more than 10,000 cases after Maharashtra which has reported 27,524 cases so far as of Friday.
