In a shocking development concerning the Coronavirus outbreak in Tamil Nadu, 26 employees of a Tamil News Channel had been confirmed to have contracted with the virus after they tested positive on Tuesday, exactly two days after a 24-year-old sub-editor of the news channel affected by the virus.
According to the reports, these employees are attached to the desk and reporting units of the channel. After having been reported that 24-year-old had been tested positive, 94 employees from the channel had given their samples and swabs for testing of which, the results of 26 employees returned positive for the virus.
The reports stated that all 94 had gone through Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and the corporation officials are currently investigating whether the 24-year-old sub-editor of the channel, who was the first in the media house to get affected by the virus, had contracted the contagion from his father, who is a sub-inspector.
The affected journalist lives in Royapuram, which has the most number of positive cases in Chennai. Last Wednesday, he had given the samples for testing along with his entire family. On Sunday, he was tested positive for the virus while the rest of the family members tested negative. The journalist had been attended the state government's briefing held by Health Secretary Beela Rajesh.
After the media house reported dozens of cases in a day amid the lockdown, the officials had directed the employees to remain under home quarantine and their movements have been restricted in the office premises. The officials had permitted only three persons to work in the Production Control Room (PCR) with the view of airing the live news. The Corporation has advised the employees of the media to stay vigil and cautious while going to the workplaces.
The reporters must ensure to maintain social distancing in the workplace. On Sunday, two journalists in Tamil Nadu had tested positive for the virus becoming the first ones in the media house to have been contracted to the pandemic. Of these two, a 25-year-old man belongs to the print media while the other, a 24-year-old, works in a television channel. At the current stage, 28 journalists have been infected to the virus of which 27 belong to a Tamil News Channel.
