The Coronavirus (COVID19) has become pandemic across India for the past two days as the country has reported with more than 20 positive cases in Delhi and Telangana. While the Central and state governments have been escalating the mechanisms to tackle and contain the outbreak, the state of Tamil Nadu has reported with four people who carry the symptoms positive for the virus.
Initial reports say that of these four, three cases, including a two-year-old boy, got admitted to the government hospital in Trichy on Tuesday after developing the symptoms while the fourth case has been admitted in Coimbatore on Wednesday. According to the reports, the state health officials said that they have been quarantined and their samples were sent to the King Institute of Preventive Medicine and Research in Guindy, Chennai - which is the state's first coronavirus test center- for further examinations.
The officials stated that the Coimbatore youth who has been hospitalized is a research student in Japan-one of the worst virus-hit countries and he arrived in Chennai through Singapore on February 26 after which he reached Coimbatore through the train. He has developed the symptoms of throat pain and fever since he arrived following which he got hospitalized in Coimbatore on Wednesday after he didn't recover from the symptoms. He has now been put under continuous observation and medical supervision.
In Trichy, three people including a two-year-old boy who arrived in the district from Malaysia have been under hospitalization in the district's government hospital since Tuesday after they developed symptoms of the virus. The reports have stated that the southern districts haven't been reported with any cases. However, the government general hospital in Madurai has installed a Coronavirus Isolation ward to handle the patients who show up with positive symptoms and adding to that, the rest of the district level health departments and the state government had been enhancing the medical apparatus to contain the widespread epidemic.
On Wednesday, the Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine said that 96,729 passengers who arrived in Chennai, Madurai, Trichy, and Coimbatore airports have gone through the screening so far and of these 96,729, about 1,292 passengers were home quarantined till Tuesday whereas five other have been under quarantine in hospitals. The reports say that of 1,292, most of them have completed their 28-day home quarantine period while the rest are under self-observation.
