Corona outbreak: Two more positive cases in Tamil Nadu bringing the total to 40!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported with two fresh cases on Saturday that were tested positive for the Coronavirus through which the total number of affected cases in the state stands at 40 so far which includes active, recovered, and expired patients.

According to state Health Minister Vijayabaskar, these new cases are a 42-year-old male, a native of Kumbakonam, who returned from West Indies recently, and a 49-year-old male from Katpadi, Vellore who arrived in the city from the United Kingdom. The minister said that both patients have travel histories from abroad and they arrived in the state through the Middle East. The Kumbakonam man has been admitted to Thanjavur Medical College Hospital while Katpadi man has been getting treated at Vellore private hospital and the minister added that both patients are doing stable and under isolation.

 

These cases were reported when the state has marked its fifth day of the unprecedented lockdown period and when the government has been enhancing the mechanisms to curb the spread of the contagion. On Friday, Tamil Nadu recorded its highest single-day rise in the number of cases after it has reported with nine positive cases. However, on the other hand, it also had good news for the state as a 21-year-old man who returned from Dublin, Ireland, who was the second positive case in the state, has now been recovered and discharged from the hospital.

On Saturday, the Kanyakumari Medical college hospital has reported with three deaths in its coronavirus isolation ward that erupted the speculations whether these patients tested positive for the virus. However, the state health department had issued the conformity that all three deceased, including a two-year child, haven't tested positive for the virus and died due to pre-existing ailments and the department stated that the swab and blood samples were collected for further examinations.

 

According to the health minister, the state has screened 2,09,284 passengers so far and 1500 samples were collected and tested of which 1252 returned negative while 40 were positive and the rest of the samples (208) are under process. Although the state has been going through a complete lockdown and imposed a curfew to contain the spread of the virus, it has reported about 29 cases in the past few days.

As of Saturday noon, the state has reported with 40 cases confirmed to be affected by the pandemic and of these 40, 37 are active while two have been recovered - including 21-year-old Ireland return and 45-year-old Oman return who is native of Kanchipuram and he has recovered earlier this month and a 54-year-old man who died due to the virus on Wednesday making the state to record its first fatality. All the active cases have been treated under isolation across various hospitals and these 37 include Indian nationals as well as foreign nationals - two Thailand nationals getting treated in Erode and four Indonesians getting treated in Salem and most of the active cases have travel histories to different countries.
