Corona outbreak: TN reports 527 fresh cases, the highest rise since the outbreak!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 527 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Monday taking the total number of affected cases to 3,550 so far in its territory including the active, recovered, and deceased patients.

The current reporting of 527 cases has been the highest single-day rise recorded by the state so far since the outbreak as the graph of the total affected cases has been climbing unprecedently high for the past few days amid the strict restrictions and lockdown. For the last seven days, the state has reported at least 200 cases each day revealing the intense spread of the pandemic.

In the last ten days, the state has recorded double the amount of total cases than what it had reported previously and the state has added about 1,500 cases to its count in the last seven days of which 80% of the cases belong to Chennai. By this time on April 23, the state had 908 active cases and in the span of ten days, the numbers were doubled as the state currently has 2,107 active cases.

The state health department has issued the official press release in which it had put out the latest developments concerning the outbreak in the state. According to the press release, the state has tested 1,62,970 samples including 12,863 that were tested on Monday of which 527 - the highest rise, had returned positive for the virus taking the total number of affected cases to 3,550.

Of these 527, 377 are male patients while the rest are females and out of 527, 266 belong to Chennai and 122 belong to Cuddalore, the highest rise recorded by the district. The state has reported 30 fresh discharges taking the total number of discharges to 1,409 and the state also has recorded one fresh fatality through which the death toll currently stands at 31 so far.

Through the press release, the state health department has revealed that most of the cases that were reported on Monday had direct linked to the Koyambedu cluster as the busiest market has been emerging as one of the fresh epicenters for the virus in the state amid the lockdown.

Chennai has been witnessing soaring cases each day and on Sunday, the city has reported 203 fresh cases of the state's total of 266 and as of Monday, the capital has reported 1,724 cases- the highest in Tamil Nadu alarming the corporation to grip up the measures. However, the emergence of the Koyambedu cluster has burdened the measures as the authorities fear that the cluster would increase the number of cases in the upcoming days when the government is aiming to flatten the curve of COVID-19 affected cases.

On Monday, Dr. Radhakrishnan IAS, who is the special nodal officer for Greater Chennai Corporation to tackle the spread of the virus, said that aggressive testing is the reason for the exorbitant rise in the number of positive cases in the city. He further appealed to the people to remain co-operative to the government in its fight against COVID-19. As of Monday evening, Tamil Nadu has reported 3,550 cases so far of which 2,107 are active, 1,409 have been recovered and 31 have succumbed to the virus.
