Corona outbreak: TN police's new idea to refrain the movement of the vehicles!

The police department in Salem district, Tamil Nadu has come up with the new and unique measure to refrain the unnecessary movements of the vehicles in its territory amid the complete lockdown and curfew that have imposed across the state to stem the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

This unique idea would ensure that the riders are authorized to hit the roads and it would also aid the law enforcement agency to seize the vehicle for making unnecessary travel. The idea, which has become a precedent to arrest the movement, was rolled out on Thursday. The Salem police department officials have painted the edges of the car number plates and mudguards of the two-wheelers in Yellow color and on Friday, the same continued but this time, Red replaced Yellow and they have been prepared with two more colors for Sunday and Monday.

The colors would be the authorization mark for the riders to hit the roads only on specific days. From next week, the police would permit the vehicles which have the color assigned for the specific day. According to this, the vehicles that had brown color would be permitted to travel only on Mondays and Fridays, the vehicles with blue color can hit the roads only on Sundays and Thursdays while Yellow has been reserved for Tuesdays and Saturdays and red can be seen only on Wednesdays and Sundays.

The reports say that Sunday has been assigned with two colors. According to the police department, the measure would let the people travel only on specific days using color-coded vehicles. They can carry out the travels only for the purpose of purchasing essentials, vegetables, and groceries and through this measure, the police have restricted the movement of a particular vehicle twice a week during which they must procure and stock up the essentials.

If police find the wrongly-colored vehicle hopping out for the unessential purpose, the vehicle would be seized immediately letting the owner recover it after clearing the penalty in the court and they would recover the vehicle only after the end of the lockdown as the courts are not functioning. The police department had circulated about the measure to the people through the newspapers and appealed the people to have their vehicles with color-code at the nearest traffic signal.

This has been one of the measures initiated by the state police towards constraining and barricading the movements of the vehicles on the road as the state has been brought under the unprecedented curfew under section 144 to curb the spread of the virus. The police department has deployed thousands of police personnel across the state to monitor, prohibit, and detain the curfew violators. As of Thursday, the state police have collected Rs 40 lakh as a penalty from violators for violating the curfew.
