With the view of containing the spread of Coronavirus (COVID19), which has become a global pandemic, in the state, the Tamil Nadu government has rolled out its preventive measures and precautions to shield the territory from the virus and to reduce the gatherings in the state.
As part of the precautionary measure, the state government has ordered to close all the primary classes, theaters, malls, and tourist spots till March 31st to grid up its combating mechanisms to contain the contagion. The statement released by the government said the Chief Minister has ordered to shut down all kindergarten and primary schools till class V. Adding to that, the theaters and malls in 16 districts- Theni, Tirupur, Kanyakumari, Coimbatore, Krishnagiri, Nilgiris, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Tirupattur, Tiruvallur, Ranipet, Vellore, Dindigul, Erode, Virudhunagar, and Dharmapuri will be remain closed till March 31st. Some of the malls and tourist spots have been closed in the Coimbatore district.
Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami has appealed to the people to constrain the travels out of the state and to avoid public gatherings for the next 15 days. The government has drafted regulations to contain the spread of the virus and as per the regulations, it has authorized district collectors to close schools, enhance surveillance of the patients, install mechanisms to quarantine the affected people, ban the vehicle movement, and to barricade the entry and exit of the population in their respective districts.
The government has also directed the hospitals including private establishments to notify the health department about the suspected cases and the order has stated that the people who had developed positive symptoms must be forcibly admitted to the hospital if such people refuse to get quarantined and the government has issued warnings to the private laboratories and testing centers not to take any tests and not to collect the samples from the suspected people. The Chief Minister has directed the authorities to strengthen the surveillance and cleanliness in temples, churches, and mosques where people would assemble in large numbers.
The Chief Minister has announced Rs 60 crore fund to shield the state from the virus through various government departments. The reports have stated that the fund would aim to grip up the surveillance at the borders, enhancing the health facilities, creating awareness on hygiene and sanitation, and containing the spread. Adding to the closure of the primary schools, some of the major educational institutions including SRM, VIT, Central University of Tamil Nadu, NIT Trichy have either canceled the classes or extended the summer holidays. However, IIT-Madras hasn't issued any directives to cancel the classes.
The state government has deputed Radhakrishnan, who is the Commissioner of Revenue Administration (CRA) to work with various government departments towards containing the virus. The government has instructed district collectors to submit daily reports on the preventive measures to CRA who will then report to the Health Minister and the Chief Minister. The state of Tamil Nadu was earlier reported with two positive cases of the global pandemic. In the following days, the government asserted that they were tested negative to the virus making the state Corona free. As on Monday morning, India reported with 110 cases in its territory and two deaths due to the epidemic.
