After the state of Tamil Nadu has recorded three positive cases for the Coronavirus, which has become a global pandemic, the state government has been strengthening its mechanisms and measures to contain and to combat the virus from getting rampant across its territory.
The state has already been under severe lockdown after the government has ordered to shut down the schools, colleges, universities, malls, theaters, bars, parks, tourist spots, and private establishments to avoid mass gatherings that would lower the risk of the virus spread and on Thursday, hours after Chennai has reported with its third case, Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami had chaired a high-level meeting following which the fresh directives and guidelines were issued.
As per the fresh directives, all the temples, churches, mosques, and other places of worship would remain closed to the visitors and devotees till March 31st as part of the precautionary measures. Hospitals to be installed in all the districts with the isolation wards and the government doctors would counsel the patients who are under home quarantine through video calls and the weekly markets would remain closed till March 31st and jewelry stores, textile shops, and hypermarkets would be closed on Friday.
The state has some of the prestigious and historical temples which would account for stable footfalls and after the directive, these temples had closed its doors on Friday and would remain closed till the month-end. The reports say that the regular rituals and pujas would be carried on and the public wouldn't be allowed. Some of the most visited tourists' spots like Ooty, Kodaikanal, and Mamallapuram had seen a decline in the number of visitors for the past few days due to the widespread restrictions and the busy streets in Chennai had turned quiet due to the closure of the malls, theaters, parks, and private establishments.
According to the reports, the essential services would remain open. Pharmacies, grocery shops would be functioning normally amid the outbreak and the state government has also banned processions, camps, conferences, seminars, public meetings, sports and cultural events, exhibitions till March 31st and it has also enhanced the screening at the airports and railway stations and the public areas like courts, metro stations, railway stations, airports would be disinfected three times a day.
These mechanisms have been a part of the preventive measures and come after the city has reported with three cases positive to the virus. Earlier, the state government has installed a task force to monitor and contain the spread of the virus.
