The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 66 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Saturday taking the total number of infected cases to 1,821 so far in its territory including the active, recovered, and deceased patients. At the current stage, the state has more discharged cases than active patients.
Tamil Nadu Health Minister Vijayabaskar has addressed the reporters during which he put out the latest developments concerning the Coronavirus outbreak. He said that the government has tested 80,110 samples so far including 7,707 tested on Saturday, which is the highest single-day tests carried out by the state since the outbreak. Of these tests, 66 returned positive that had taken the total number of affected cases to 1,821.

The minister stated that of these 66, 38 are males while the rest are females and 43 cases belong to Chennai, 7 belong to Kancheepuram, 5 belong to Tenkasi, 4 belong to Madurai, 2 each from Perambalur and Virudhunagar, and one each from Chengalpattu, Villupuram, and Tiruvannamalai. The state has also recorded a fresh fatality as a 34-year-old native of Chennai had succumbed to the virus.
Through the reporting of a fresh fatality, the death toll in the state currently stands at 23. The Minister said that the state currently has 41 COVID-19 testing facilities in its territory and Tamil Nadu is the only state in India to have more testing facilities in the government hospitals through which the government has aimed to increase the testing capabilities and the state would attain the level of testing 10,000 samples in the coming days.
The state has reported 94 discharges on Saturday that had taken the total number of discharges to 960, which currently exceeds the number of active cases. With more recovery, the state has accounted for the recovery rate of 52%. Saturday's count had slightly decreased the total numbers than Friday. On Friday, the state has reported 72 positive cases with 52 in Chennai alone.
Chennai has been witnessing soaring cases each day as it has the most number of cases in the state. With the current reporting, Chennai has 495 cases in its territory as the corporation prepares to face enhanced lockdown from April 26th to 29th along with Coimbatore and Madurai. As of Saturday evening, the state reported 1,821 positive cases of which 835 are active patients, 960 have been discharged while 23, including one fresh fatality, had succumbed to the virus.
