Tamil Nadu has reported 96 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) in its territory on Thursday taking the total number of the infected cases to 834 so far including the active, recovered, and deceased patients. The reporting of 96 cases has become one of the highest single-day rises in the infected cases and the state has been adding about 60-70 cases per day on an average to its count since March 31st, 2020.
In her daily briefing to the reporters concerning the outbreak in the state, Tamil Nadu Health Secretary Beela Rajesh put out the latest developments. She said that the state has reported with 96 fresh cases of which 84 people tested positive for the virus from a single source event. With the current total numbers of 834, 763 cases were affected by the virus through the single source event of the Tablighi Jamaat Conference that was organized in Delhi last month.

She stated that Tamil Nadu has tested 7,267 samples so far and 834 samples were returned positive for the virus as of Thursday. With the current numbers, according to the data released by the Union Ministry of Health, Tamil Nadu stands at the second spot with having the most number of positive cases in India after Maharashtra, which has reported 1135 cases so far. On Wednesday, the state has added 48 cases to its count of which, 42 were identified to have attended the Jamaat conference held at Delhi.
Beela Rajesh further stated that 27 patients have so far been recovered from the pandemic including a 72-year-old male. The reporting of 96 cases has come at the crucial time when Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami has said that there is a chance that the state could hit the third stage of the virus which is the community spread. The Chief Minister, on Thursday, stated that the government has installed a medical committee to provide the inputs of the developments based on which the government would take a final decision on extending the lockdown.
As of Thursday evening, the state has reported with 834 positive cases of which 799 are active patients, 27 have been recovered and discharged while eight have succumbed to the virus. These active cases include Indians and foreign nationals and getting treated across the state with more cases reported in Chennai.
